John Flynt said he has “no intentions” of giving up the House Ethics Committee chairmanship at the request of Common Cause, a citizens advocacy group. 1 Common Cause Chairman John Gardner asked Flynt to step down in a letter saying “the record now makes clear that you are not qualified to lead a credible investigation” into South Korean influence peddling among congressmen. Flynt, a Georgia Democrat whose constituency includes Clayton County, said “I have no intention of following your gratuitous advice” in a letter replying to Gardner. House Speaker Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill came to Flynt’s defense, saying “I know SAT., SUN., MON., ONLY open daily io-io; Sunday m 8 mekhTnmse roucr | M Ovr mWnlion H io •»*»• •••«» a BB HmU ; . Sikes, D-Fla., when the Democratic party caucus dropped Sikes as chairman of an appropriations subcommittee. Flynt told the caucus his committee’s recommednation last year that Sikes be reprimanded was not based on any finding that Sikes was guilty of conflict of interest but only that he failed to disclose certain financial holdings. Gardner quoted from the committee report that said Sikes’ Florida land holdings “created an obvious and significant conflict of interest.” “Your own committee report Page 7 thus explicitly reveals both the inaccuracy and inappropriateness of your statements to the Democratic caucus,” said Gardner. “If the Ethics Committee is to go forward with this investigation, we call upon you to step aside as chairman.” Art Club hosts artist Clint Cartyer, well known Atlanta artist, presented some of his works for the viewing pleasure of Griffin Spalding Art Association members at their Feb. meeting. Carter also gave an interesting demonstration on drawing and sketching. — Griffin Daily News Saturday, February 5,1977 School Menu The master menu for the Griffin-Spalding School System for the week of February 7-11 is as follows: MONDAY—Cheeseburger, lima beans, French fries, bunn, orange wedge, butter cookies, milk.
