Craver, 22, of 807 Scales street, was sentenced to life imprisonment Wednesday after a jury found him guilty of murder in the Nov. 26 shooting death of his girl friend, Lora Ann Morgan, 16. Craver’s trial was the second murder case this week in Spalding Superior Court and lasted all day. Craver admitted shooting Miss Morgan, but said he didn’t intend to. He had been drinking and was upset, he said. “I loved her very much,” he said. According to testimony, the couple had been living together for several years. The day of the shooting, they had had a fight and Miss Morgan had gone home to her mother. The defendant said she had accused him of not going to work and he had accused her of going with his friends. Blows were exchanged during the dispute, he said. Craver said before the argument he had gone to his mother’s house and had gotten a pistol which he usually carried with him at night for protection. It was unloaded. He said he went to his brother’s, John Craver’s, house at 805 Scales street and Miss Morgan was in the kitchen braiding John’s hair. He intended to apologize, not to shoot her, he said. “I don’t remember shooting her. I was upset over the fight. I was crazy about her. I really thought the world of her. I wish I could change it but it’s happened now,” he said. Craver said when he came to his senses, he was at the police department where he had gone to turn himself in. There were 2 witnesses to the shooting, John Craver and his wife, Mary, who also was Miss Morgan’s sister. Mrs. Craver took the murder warrant against her brother-in-law. They testified no words were spoken, that Willie Craver walked into their kitchen and fired 2 shots at Miss Morgan. Dr. Virgil Williams, who performed the autopsy, said either shot would have caused her death. She was wounded in the head and chest, he said. Detective Mike Brooks who investigated the shooting and William Jamerson, the jailer, also testified, along with a B ® i x I u .. >i microanalyist with the state crime lab who confirmed the bullets which killed Miss Morgan came from a pistol found in Craver’s mother’s house. Craver was represented by Atty. John Newton. Geo. Washington'sl BIRTHDAY SALE For The . The jury was called back yesterday at 4:30 p.m. and spent some 2% hours hearing evidence before returning the no bill. Dukes, 20, of 314 North Third street, was shot Saturday night in front of Pattishall’s home at 111 West Quilley street in an apparent robbery attempt. The grand jury was called back into session after a member of the dead man’s family took a warrant charging Pattishall with murder. Pattishall told police he fired his pistol when 2 men attempted to rob him. One of the robbers had fired at Pattishall, blowing a hole in his front door. A second suspect was questioned by police but was released for lack of evidence. MERLE NORMAN COSMETICS IMS. HiUSt. Griffin, Ga. 227-9188 Skin Care & Make-up Consultations.
