Alexander, son of Mr. and Mrs.
John H. Alexander of
Williamson, recently was
assigned to the 3rd Armored
Division in Germany. He is a
member of the scout platoon
with the Combat Support
Company, Ist Battalion of the
division’s 48th Infantry in
Geinhausen.
RICHARD H. LUPO
Airman Richard H. Lupo, son
of Mrs. Hattie Lupo of Zebulon,
has received a new assignment
following graduation from the
operating room specialist
course conducted by the Air
Training Command at Shep
pard AFB, Tex. Airman Lupo
will go to the USAF hospital at
Carswell AFB, Tex., for duty
with a unit of the SAC.

Navy Seaman Apprentice
Clarence K. Beckum, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Clarence G. Beckum,
Jr., of Griffin has completed
recruit training at the Naval
Training Center, Orlando, Fla.
RICK DOUGHERTY
Recently promoted to the
rank of Captain was Rick
Dougherty of Rogers, Ark.
Capt. Dougherty is the son of
Mrs. and Mrs. Ralph Doughtery
of Griffin. He is a member of the
188th Tactical Fighter
Squadron of the Arkansas Air
National Guard, based in Fort
Smith, Ark. He is presently
assigned as a tactical fighter
pilot, flying the F-100 Super
Sabre. His civilian occupation is
a production supervisor for
Union Carbide Corporation in
Rogers. He and his wife, Shelia,
reside in Rogers.

Marine Private Richard J.
Peavy, son of Mrs. Sara Peavy
of Griffin, has completed
recruit training at the Marine
Corps Recruit Depot, Parris
Island, S.C.

his grandmother, Mrs. Robert
Holmes and cousins at 725 Anne
street after completing his
basic training at Orlando Naval
Training Center of Orlando,

Cone of Milner and is a missile

of the SAC. Airman Cone’s wife,
Debra, is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Franklin G. Lassiter
of Barnesville.

Leon Wilson of Griffin, was
assigned to the 16th Signal
Battalion at Fort Hood, Tex.
Spec. Wilson is a radio

Library offers
power film
“Power and People,” a
consumer interest film will be
sponsored by the Flint River
Regional Library to answer
questions on power expenses.
The general public is invited to
attend the film. It will be
presented Mar. 3, at 7 p.m. in
the Meeting Room of the
library.
Produced by the Georgia
Power Company, “Power and
People” is a film about the
electric energy situation here in
Georgia. A representative of
Georgia Power will accompany
the film to answer any questions
members of the audience may
have.
According to energy experts,
the energy crisis is a pending
problem that will be with us for
years. Find out what to expect
in the future and what can be
done to resolve both current and
future energy problems.
Louise Mathis receives honor
from the Georgia Senate
The Georgia Senate has
unanimously passed a
resolution introduced by
Senator Virginia Shapard of
Griffin commending Mrs.
Louise Mathis, also of Griffin,
for her outstanding
achievement in being named an
advisory member of the
prestigious Marquis
Biographical Library Society.
As an advisory member of
the Marquis Biographical
Library Society, Mrs. Mathis
will have the privilege of
nominating individuals to
“Who’s Who in America’’ and
“Who’s Who of American
Women.”
The Senate resolution reads
in part, “It is only fitting and
proper that the members of this

meeting on
student aid
The Griffin-Spalding Chapter
of Negro Business and
Professional Women’s Club has
planned a joint meeting for
seniors and their parents.
A representative from the
Georgia Scholarship Com
mission and others will meet
at the Greater Eighth Street
Baptist Church, 406 Palace
street, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m.
They will discuss methods of
financing post-high school
education.
The meeting is especially
designed for the parents of high
school seniors. Every effort will
be made to assist them in
obtaining all necessary
information for aid to continue
their child’s education after
graduation.
This program is in addition to
the regular guidance program
available in the schools.
