To he auctioned
The Griffin Historical Society will offer this 1965 Mercedes Benz 220 sedan at an auction to
be conducted May 6 at the Griffin Moose Lodge. The car is a 4-door sedan with a 6-cylinder
engine and automatic transmission. It is dark gray with red Interior. The car will be on
display at the Lewis-Mills House on North Hill street Wednesday from 2 until 5 p.m.

Mrs. Ross
Mrs. Mildred Sauls Ross of
306 South Fifth street, died
Thursday night at the Griffin-
Spalding Hospital where she
was admitted at noon
yesterday.
Mrs. Ross was the widow of
Mr. William Poston Ross who
died March 5, 1974. She was a
native of Eufaula. Ala., and
moved to Griffin in 1948. She
was employed at Smith-Roberts
Co., here.
She has no immediate
survivors.
The funeral will be conducted
from the graveside in the new
section of Oak Hill cemetery
Saturday morning at 11 o’clock.
The Rev. Douglas Winn will
officiate. Haisten Funeral
Home is in charge of plans.
Mr. Jim Smith
The funeral for Mr. Jim N.
Smith, 85, of Eddyville, Ky., will
be held there Saturday. He died
Thursday at a Paducah, Ky.,
hospital.
Survivors include 2 sisters,
Mrs. George Murray, Sr., of
Griffin and Mrs. L. M. Elder of
Coldwater, Miss., his wife and
daughter.
Mr. Merriam
Mr. Lucius Allen Merriam of
905 East College Street died this
morning at his home.
Mr. Merriam was a native of
Chattanooga, Tenn. He moved
to Griffin 8 years ago from
Athens, Tenn., and was
employed as an engineer at
Imperial Homes. He was a
professional engineer and was a
fellow of the Institute of Traffic
Engineers.
At one time, he was traffic
engineer for the state of
Colorado.
Mr. Merriam was a pilot
during Worlk War 11. He was a
member of the Presbyterian
Church in Athens, Tenn.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Joy Dooley Merriam of
Griffin, a son, Thomas N.
Merriam of Atlanta, 2
daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Joy
McPheeters of Atlanta and Mrs.
Barbara Allen Shaw of Athens,
Ga.
The body was donated to the
Emory University School of
Medicine.
Pittman-Rawls Funeral
Home is in charge of local
arrangements.

announced Thursday in
Washington that it will revoke
an order that has prevented the
deportation of Andrija
Artukovic, above. Artukovic is
suspected of being a Nazi war

happening
Spring revival
The Mt.. Baptist Church will hold its
annual spring revival during May 1-6.
The Rev. W. L. Cottrell of Atlanta will
be evangelist for the revival. The Rev.
J. H. Miller will preach at the Sunday
morning and evening worship services.
Services will begin each night at 7 p.m.
Prayer meeting will begin each evening
at 7 p.m. The Rev. Miller, assistant
pastor, will be host.
Wind ensemble
The University of South Florida’s
wind ensemble will be in concert at the
Griffin High auditorium tonight
beginning at 8 p.m.
Attic Sale
The Salvation Army will have an attic
sale Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The Salvation Army is located at 419
North 13th street.
Spaghetti supper
The women of Pleasant Hill United
Methodist Church will sponsor a
spaghetti supper Saturday from 5 to 8
p.m. The church is located on 36
Highway and High Falls road. Plates
will sell for $2.
Gospel singing
A gospel singing will be held at the
landmark Church of God, 309 North
Hill street, featuring the Manna
singers, the Landmark Quartet, the
Singing Evangelairs and the Landmark
Five. The singing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Rev. Robert Presley is the pastor.
Softball
The Griffin-Spalding County Hospital
staff softball practice will be held
Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. on the field
behind Dundee Mills. This practice will
be for the upcoming game with the
doctors.
Gospel singing
A gospel singing at the Kincaid
United Methodist Church will be held
Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m.
featuring the Sunny South Quartet.
Prayer, healing
The Universal House of Prayer is
conducting old time prayer and healing
services at the church, 535 South Ninth
street, formerly Rising Star Baptist
Church, beginning Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
The guest evangelist will be the Rev. J.
B. Curtis of Zebulon. Pastor is Elder
Fred Phillips.
Bazaar
The Town and Country Garden Club
will have its annual bazaar Saturday
from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in front of
Rose’s in Spalding Square. Many items
will be featured such as handicrafts,
plants, baked goods, needlework and
many others.

Youth
to conduct
Sunday service
In observance of Youth
Sunday, the youth of the First
Christian Church will provide
the leadership for the morning
worship service on Sunday.
The youth choir will sing and
Cam Huxford, youth director
and ministerial student at the
Atlanta Christian College, will
deliver his first sermon in
Griffin.
The junior deacons will serve
communion. The Rev. Don
Hunsaker is the pastor.
Woman injured
in accident
A 75-year-old Decatur woman
suffered multiple fractures this
morning when her auto left the
Griffin By-Pass and hit some
trees near the Cobb Ford
Tractor Co.
Mrs. Della Leach of 851 Twin
Oaks drive, Decatur, was
admitted to the intensive care
unit of the Griffin-Spalding
Hospital.
The accident happened
around 6:15 a.m. and was
investigated by the Griffin State
Patrol Post.
