the National League.
Jimmy Hill lead his team to
the victory with 12 strike outs
and eight walks which
accounted for the only four runs
scored by the Exchange team.
Pitchers for the Exchange
team were Mawl Preston and
Ben Morales.
Kiwanis hitters were: Keith
Beeland with a double and a
single; Jimmy Hill with a
double and a single; Tommy
Jones with a double; Keith
Roberts with a triple and Billy
Carter with a single.
In American League action,
the Elks defeated the Moose by
a score of 5 to 4. The winning
Elks team scored two hits and
five runs against the pitching of
Randy Chadwick and Jay
Burford.
Elks pitchers George Kelvin
Allen scored six strike outs and
five walks and Russ Greeway
pitched five strike outs and
three walks.
George Allen got the only
Elks hits with a double and a
field to bring Templeton in from second base. Braves Tom
Paciorek received an error when he threw off target to the
plate. Neikro came in to cover the plate while Biff

Mills 13-8. Perry Hallmark
started at the mound for
Parkwood and pitched two
innings with no strike outs and
three walks. Pop Ellis followed
him in the third with one strike
out and five walks. Billy Shirah
finished the last two innings for
Parkwood with six strike outs
and three walks.
Joel Cox, Bobby Grant, Keith
Anderson and Eddie McLain
totaled one strike out and 10
walks at the mound for
American Mills.
American Mills hitters were:
Eddie McLain with a single;
Timothy Sim with a triple;
Bobby Grant with a double;
Keith Anderson with a single
and David Mcßroom with a

WGRI, Ringers win matches
WGRI defeated the Perks in
two straight games in the
Griffin Horseshoe League
Thursday.
WGRI won the first game 21-
12 and took the second 21-5.
Winning hitters were: Chris
Hunter with a single and Athony
Mitchell with a triple.
Griffin Federal defeated
May’s Printing 14-8 under the
pitching of Barry Arnett who
went all the way for Griffin
Federal with five strike outs
and nine walks.
Timmy Peeples, Scott Jones
and Greg Thompson pitched for
May’s Printing.
Winning hitters were: Greg
Brooks with three singles; Jeff
Polk with two singles; Preston
Capel with one hit and Dennis
English with one triple and one
single.
May’s Printing hitters were:
Mark Smith with a single and
two doubles; Greg Fischer with
a single; Timmy Peeples with a
double and a single and Kent
O’Neal with a double.
G&H Glass trailed 5-8 in an
unfinished battle with Spalding
Gas. The game was called
because of darkness.
Eric Coates started at the
mound for Spalding Gas with
five strike outs and no walks.
Jeff Roberts followed him with
five strike outs and five walks.
Kenneth Byrd and Allan
Hardwick were at the controls
for G&H Glass with 10 strike
outs and seven walks.
Spalding Gas hitters were:

a single; Ronnie Wells with a
double; Doug Eskins with a

The Ringers needed three
games to set the Winners. The
Winners took the first game 21-
19 and the Ringers bounced
back to take the next two, 21-17
and 21-11.

Griffin plagued by 13-itis
loses last season game
The Griffin High baseball
team lost its first. encounter
with Newton County yesterday
with a score of 14-13.
Coach Bobby Pierce said, “It
was the worse game Griffin has
played in years. They were not
mentally prepared for the
game.”
Griffin used four pitchers.
Ricky Faulkner started and
pitched two innings giving up
two runs on two hits and walked
three. He struck out four.
Mark Gilreath pitched for
one-third inning giving up six
runs on three hits and three

Barkley sets tri-jump record
in defeat of North Clayton
The Griffin High School track
team met little opposition from
North Clayton. The result was
Griffin, 109-North Clayton, 26.
First places for Griffin were:
Charles Barkley in the long
jump at 21 feet, two inches;
Charles Barkley in the triple
jump with 41 feet and 3 inches
(a new Griffin High School
record); Chuck Hudson in the
discus throw with 125 feet and 10
inches; Chuck Hudson in the
shot put with 51 feet and one and
one-half inches; Russell Miller
in the pole vault with a height of
nine feet and six inches; Russell
Miller in the 100 yard dash with
a time of 9.9 seconds; Tores
Smith, Russell Miller, Ricky
Williams and Alton Riggins in
the 440 relay with a time of 44
flat.
Curtis Dennis in the 880 run
with a time of 2 minutes and 5.1
seconds; Willie Gault in the 120
hurtles with a time of 14.9
seconds; Alton Riggins in the
220 dash with a time of 22.6
seconds; Keith Cook in the two
mile run with a time of four
minutes and 42.4 seconds and
Craig Nelms in the 440 yard run

seconds; Freddie Gilbert in the
triple jump at 41 feet and 7
inches; Alan Cawthon in the
discus throw at 102 feet and 1
inch; Jonathan Nelms in the

the sixth, and one in the seventh.
Newton County scored one in
the first, one in the second, six
in the third, three in the fourth,
one in the fifth, one in the sixth
and one in the seventh.
The final run scored came as
a result of a wild pitch in a
heavy down pour. The umpire
had stopped the game once but
failed to stop it again.
Griffin hitters were: Brian
Upson and Jeff Treadway with
