Judge Smith to address graduates
The annual Adult Education
Honors Program will be held
May 26 at 8 p.m. in the West
Griffin Elementary School
auditorium. The Honors
Program is the highlight of a
successful year for the Spalding
County Adult Education
System.
The honored guest and
speaker for the event is Judge
George T. Smith, Georgia Court
of Appeals. He was recently
elected to the seat on the Court
of Appeals making him the only
Southside Progress leaders mark
formal organization with visit
Leaders of Southside
Progress met with Gov. George
Busbee at the state Capitol to
officially mark the
organization’s move from a
volunteer status to a formal,
staffed organization for
promotion and improvement of
the area south of Atlanta.
Southside Progress is an
organization of property
owners, businessmen, and
institutions working with
governments at all levels to
plan for and promote the
development of the region south
of 1-20 and extending as far
south as interest prevails.
It was formed 3 years ago and
until now has functioned as an
unfunded, volunteer
organization.
Presidnet Cam Mitchell, a
past president of the Georgia
Chamber of Commerce,
outlined problems the group is
working to solve as promotion
of the Southside to match
northside development in
quality of housing education,
industry, businesses and the
like; solving water and
sewerage problems; full
development and utilization of
Hartsfield International
man in Georgia history to run
with opposition and to be
elected to serve in all 3
branches of state government.
Smith will address 100 GED
graduates as well as many
other adult education students
who are presently participating
in classes. Friends, relatives
and the general public are
invited to attend. A reception
will be held following the
program.

County Adult Education System
Airport and development of an
efficient highway and
transportation network.
Southside Progress played a
key role in the expansion of
Hartsfield and construction of
Midfield Terminal by

deficiencies in some way
impair their ability to obtain
employment and be more
productive citizens. The
program also provides special
classes in algebra and English
for those preparing for the GED
exam.
