tributes
The National Association of
Negro Business and
Professional Women Club will
host its first annual tribute to
achievers Friday at 8 p.m. at
the Holiday Inn in Griffin.
The program is scheduled to
be a combination awards and
poolside fashion show.
A troupe of professional
models will present the fashion
show.
In making awards the
professional club will pay
tribute to outstanding members
of the community. Awards will
include the educator of the year,
outstanding business woman,
outstanding professional
woman, man of the year, youth
challenge award, and the most
promising in business or
professional award.
The club members will also
recognize their own member of
the year.
Tickets may be reserved for
$6.50 and will be available at the
door.
Griffinites
accused
in drug raids
Two Griffinites were among
16 arrested during drug raids in
Sumpter and Crisp Counties.
Vern Stephens, 18, was
charged with violating the
Georgia Controlled Substances
Act. Arnold Mclntyre, 20, was
charged with possessing
marijuana.
GBI undercover agents had
been working in the area for
about 3 months and the roundup
began Tuesday in Cordele when
2 men (not the Griffinites)
allegedly delivered 20 pounds of
marijuana to one of the agents.
More than $13,000 worth of
illegal drugs were seized in the
raids, police said.
Several of those arrested
were identified as students at
South Georgia Tech.

Yard sale
The Y Club yard sale will be held
Saturday on Pine avenue near Ken’s
Pizza from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Donations will be accepted. The sale
will be cancelled in case of rain.
Lions Club
The Griffin Lions Club will meet at
the Moose Lodge tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Speaker for the evening will be Coach
Max Dowis, Griffin High School coach.
Gospel singing
A gospel singing will be held
Saturday night at the Fellowship
Baptist Church, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
featuring the Outstanding Saints of
Columbia, S. C., and the Landmark
Five of Griffin. Wayman Merritt is the
pastor.
Attic sale
The Salvation Army will have an attic
sale Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Car wash
The Spalding Junior High Coed Y
Club will hold a car wash Saturday
from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Griffin
High School senior parking lot.
Bake sale
The Pine Grove Baptist Church will
sponsor a bake sale at the Community
Grocery Store on North Hill street all
day Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
