The incident Wednesday during Charles’ visit to a community center arose when he encountered a chanting crowd waving placards over the recent arrest of 24 black youths on mugging charges. Kim Gordon, the 21-year-old leader of the protest, told Charles that black youths in the area faced constant police harassment. But he conceded they had not discussed the complaint with police officials. “I am sure there is some truth on both sides, but couldn’t you come together and discuss it?" asked the 28- year-old prince. “You cannot go around like this.” Gordon, whose parents are from Ghana and who is an official of the Socialist Workers’ Party, later described Charles as "naive."
