Robert Evans Barbi’s effect on men She started out posing on the cover of Playboy magazine. At first she resisted, but Hugh Hefner’s girlfriend eventually did an entire spread. r ,A 'B r’i/ £ Barbi Benton Barbi Benton wanted to sing so she formed a band and per formed in clubs — Playboy Clubs, mostly. Lately, she’s been on the syndicated “Hee Haw” show. And now, Jimmy Komack, who brought us the Sweathogs in Welcome Back, Kotter, has tabbed Barbi to star in Sugar, a new situation comedy due on ABC in August. Sugar, loosely based on the BBC's Rock Follies mini series, focuses on three young women whose ambitious pur suit of rock music stardom complicates their personal lives. Sugar is the name of their group. Barbi plays a beautiful girl who is rather naive about her effect on men. Her co-stars are Didi Carr and Marianne Black. The pain of returning “I think I can be No. 1 again, even though it will be full of pain, suffering, and hard work,” says pro tennis player Billie Jean King. “I’ll want to be No. 1 even when i' * "" 9 Bl\ Billie Jean King I’m 65.” After announcing her retire ment from serious singles play two years ago, Billie Jean is back on the court again, despite a third painful knee operation. The question many are asking is "why?" “I want to prove to people that motivation is so much more important than age.” says King in an interview in Tennis magazine. “Nobody will ever understand what I went through with his last operation, and the work I had to put in to get back into shape over the winter. Nobody will understand the total depres sion, unless they’ve been through it themselves. I knew that if I got through it, I would know what ‘guts’ is all about . .the pain, the pain that goes into a commitment to return.”
