(AP) - A teen aged girl pestered by obscene phone calls got the caller to leave his number, and police got the caller. Police gave this account Fri day: The 14-year-old girl, whose name was not released, re ceived an obscene phone call. She told the caller she was too busy to talk, but promised to call back if he left his number. He did. She called police, who traced the phone number. When the girl called back and recognized the voice, she gave the phone to a waiting officer. The officer identified himself, but the man said he didn’t be lieve he was a policeman. They could be dishes of the future, according to a Univer sity of Georgia science student who says one way to get rid of the fast-growing kudzu is to eat it. Neal Wechsler says the plant has a taste somewhat like cab bage or collard greens and can be used as a substitute for spin ach in many recipes. As part of his masters thesis, Wechsler studied the plant, which was brought to the South from Japan in the 1930 s to help prevent soil erosion, but which now has overrun thousands of acres of fields and woods. Atlantan killed in 1-16 collision DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) - A 44- year-old Atlanta man was killed Friday when his tractor-trailer and another truck collided on Interstate 16 about 16 miles west of here, the State Patrol said. The victim was identified as Jeff Davis Culpepper. Carolina man nabbed in slaying ATLANTA (AP) — A 37-year old South Carolina man has been charged with murder in the slaying of a 25-year-old Douglasville woman whose body was found in a vacant apartment complex Thursday. Atlanta police said Richard Arlen May of Gaffney, S.C., was arrested Friday and charged in the death of Kathy Williams, whose nude body was found in a basement garage of the apartment complex. Police said the victim appar ently was strangled. Elberton man dies in wreck CRAWFORDVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Dan Driver, 23, of El berton died Friday after the car in which he was riding went off Georgia 12 in Taliaferro County, the State Patrol said. DEAR ABBY: Something touched me deeply this morning, and I hope you will find this worthy of publishing. I am a hairdresser. For more than a year, a little lady has had a standing appointment with me at 3 p.m. every Saturday. Today (at 9 a.m.) this lady telephoned the shop and said, “My husband’s brother passed away very suddenly last night, and 1 won’t be able to come in today. Knowing that appointments are at a premium on a Saturday afternoon, please fill in my time.” Abby, if this lady could find the time under those circumstances to cancel her appointment, why can’t women who know weeks ahead of time that they are going to be out of town do the same? ROSE DEAR ROSE: Because they lack the qualities of thoughtfulness, consideration and kindness that makes this “lady” a lady. DEAR ABBY: There is an old guy in our town who is driving everybody nuts. He’s about 75 years old, and he can't keep his paws off women. No waitress will get within six feet of him. When he comes into the restaurant, the cashier has to take his order, and the cook comes out of the kitchen to serve it to him! This guy went to a doctor for a checkup, and the nurse told me that if he ever came back, she was going to have a pair of handcuffs ready. Everybody in town knows about him. I can’t understand why they let a man like that run loose. Isn’t he dangerous? PASO ROBLES DEAR PASO: Probably not. If everybody in town knows about him, they’re safe. It’s the ones they DON’T know about who are dangerous.
