(AP) - Amy Carter’s Secret Service guardians may have had to stop worrying about Amy long enough to fear for themselves Friday when their ward led them on a tour of the rides and roller coasters at Carowinds. The President’s daughter stopped off at the giant amuse ment park south of Charlotte on her way with her governess and a friend to Plains, Ga. “They just went from ride to ride,” said Tom Olds, public re lations director at the park. “There were a lot of squeals, a lot of laughter and a lot of smiles.” Amy and her entourage never even stopped for refreshments. They went straight to a small roller coaster, then rode the gi ant Thunder Road, followed by the log flume, a trip to the top of the Sky Tower, the spinning Kaleidoscope, the Flying Dutchman and the Octopus, which she liked so much she rode twice. Only about 2,000 people were braving the steady drizzle Fri day at 6:30 p.m. when Amy showed up, and not many seemed to notice they were sharing the park with the Pres ident’s daughter. “For the most part she blend ed right into the community,” Olds said. The group was allowed free into the park, which normally charges |7 a head, and park of ficials offered to keep the park open later than its normal 8 p.m. closing time, but Amy said she had had enough. So, it seems safe to guess, had the Secret Service squad, which got dampened in the log flume. Rain too late to save crops ATLANTA (AP) — More steady rain fell on Georgia in the last two days than the dur ing all of the past four months, but agriculture officials say it came too late for most of the state’s farmers. Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin estimates the drought has cost the state more than |7OO million in farm pro duction losses. But the real eco nomic impact probably never will be determined, he said. The Agriculture Department said, however, the weather sys tems which produced from a quarter to three to five inches of rain over most of Georgia Thursday and Friday should continue into the weekend. Irvin said Friday the heaviest drought damage has been to corn, soybeans, peanuts and pasture land.
