Mr. Kinnett was bom in Covington, son of the late Charlie Lee Kinnett and the late Lizzie McCart Kinnett. He attended the Baptist Church and was a Mason. Mr. Kinnett was owner and manager of the Pleasure Isle Motel in Daytona Beach. He is survived by 3 daughters, Mrs. Madge Spies of Riverside, Calif., Mrs. Marsha Farman of Augusta and Miss Sherry Kinnett of Daytona Beach; 2 sisters, Mrs. Eunice Littleton and Mrs. Margaret Kilchriss, both of Barnesville; several nieces and nephews. The body will arrive in Barnesville at Haisten Funeral Home tonight. The funeral will be Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Brady Blalock and the Rev. Leon Piper will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kilchriss, Grove street, Barnesville. YOUR BOSS BUGS YOU. Mrs. McDowell was a native of Griffin, daughter of the late J. Woods Hammond and the late Martha Rivers Hammond. She was a member of the West minister Presbyterian Church in Atlanta and was an affiliate of the First Presbyterian Church in Griffin. She was a member of the NSDAR and the AARP Club in Griffin. Mrs. McDowell was a former school teacher at Griffin High, Westminister School in Atlanta and Agnes Scott College in Decatur. Survivors include her husband, Emmett S. McDowell, Jr., of Griffin; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas E. Elkin of Memphis, Tenn.; a son, the Rev. Emmett S. McDowell 111 of Grand Rapids, Mich.; 2 sisters, Mrs. George R. Stuart of New Orleans, La., and Mrs. C. B. Jenkins of Thomaston; a sister in-law, Mrs. Hope H. Hammond of Griffin; and 7 grandchildren. The funeral will be Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from the First Presbyterian Church. Dr. John R. Richardson, the Rev. Forest Traylor, Jr., and the Rev. Sam Capel will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. The family suggests in lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions to Camp Westminister at Conyers or the building fund of the First Presbyterian Church in Griffin. FDA charges latrile promoters are exploting cancer victims WASHINGTON (AP) - Cancer victims, emotionally vulnerable to hucksters, are “exploited skillfully" by promoters of Ixietrile, the Food and Drug Administration maintains in its strongest statement yet on the un derground cancer treatment. In a 268-page report filed Thursday with a federal judge in Oklahoma, the FDA said an exhaustive review of clinical research and of Laetrile propo nents’ arguments has failed to sway the agency’s conviction that Laetrile is a hoax. Legislative pay increase proposed ATLANTA (AP) - The legis lative workload has increased and members of the Georgia General Assembly should have a 20 per cent pay raise when a new session convenes in 1979, two state officials say. House Speaker Tom Murphy and Senate President Pro Tem Al Holloway told the State Compensation Commission Thursday that the workload has ’ increased significantly since 1973, when legislators received their last pay hike. Murphy told the commission, which makes pay recommenda tions for top state officials, that The report was ordered by the judge, who is hearing a case filed by a cancer victim who wants Laetrile. While re vealing no new evidence, the report marshals previous arguments against the substance, then characterizes Laetrile promoters as charlatans and Laetrile users as victims. “Cancer engenders fear.... Cancer victims’ families feel both sympathy and guilt at being unable to relieve the victim’s suffering,” FDA Com missioner Donald Kennedy said in the report. He said they have yet to explain why 5 pharmacists, plus several assistants, are needed, while in the old section with about the same number of patients, the pharmacy was operated by Dr. Lindsey and an assistant. Pharmacists are paid at least $16,000 per year, Goldstein believes, and 5 full time pharmacists would cost SBO,OOO per year, plus the salaries of several assistants, he said. “I think the time has come for the city and county governments to demand a complete shake-up in the organizational set-up of our hospital, yours and mine, so that all the public records and meetings can be open to the news media for the benefit of the people of Griffin and Spalding County,” he said. City business is conducted in an office trailer owned by the city. It is situated in the heart of the city behind a residential area and beside the Southern Railway. A couple of years ago a new post office opened in Sunny Side to better serve the residents of the area. Many residents who live outside the city get their mail at the post office and use the postal services. The councilmen indicated that the city would not stand still while the areas of the county surrounding the city grow. “We have been growing and we plan to continue growing.
