Law against porn
too dirty to sell
By L. M. BOYD
The anti-obscenity law of Fort Fla., is so
specific in its language to describe what sex acts can’t be
portrayed in books, magazines and records that it would
be illegal to sell the ordinance itself from the town’s
newsstand racks, I’m told.
Those who ought to know say a professional shoplifter
steals about $15,000 a year. The pickpocket who knows his
business does a little better at $20,000. And the burglar with
a certain knack gets as much as $25,000. Until caught.
Seven out of 10 people who suffer chronic pain wind up in
the divorce courts, say the medical researchers.
It’s not uncommon for a bald eagle’s nest to weigh 2
tons.
HIGH DIVING HORSE
Have you ever seen a high-diving horse? Am referring
to one that will climb a long ramp and dive from a 30-foot
platform into 12 feet of water. Trainers with such
courageous beasts used to travel the country’s carnivals.
This comes up because a client asks if those diving horses
always did bellyflops. No., sir, they dove with their chests
down and their front legs forward. No jackknives, gainers
or swans, however.
Men judge women by their heads, women judge men by
their feet. Such was the contention of that renowned ac
tress of yesteryear, Sarah Bernhardt. Hope she’s right.
I’d certainly rather be judged by the feet than the hands. I
don’t bite my toenails.
ADULTERY
Q. “What proportion of American husbands and wives
these days engage in that thing called adultery?”
A. Half of the husbands and a third of the wives,
researchers now say.
Q. “Whereabouts on their bodies do cats and dogs
sweat?”
A. Only on their pawpads.
Item No. 1858 in our Love and War man’s file is a
quotation from that late authority in the field of romance
Madame Coco Chanel: “The only science for a woman is
to know how to be loved, not how to love. To love is to cry,
to be loved is to be happy, and how rare it is!”
Not everybody knows that you usually can clear a
stopped-up drain by pouring in several spoonfulls of
baking soda, adding a half a cup of vinegar, and then
covering the drain tightly for about a minute.

A very good example
Last week the City of Griffin and the
Board of Education backed up to the ex
tent of SIB,OOO apiece on federal public

threatened to delay either one of them
getting any.
The city had earmarked $604,000 to

Don’t blame
the birds
A bird picked up a burning cigarette butt
and carried it back to its nest which took
fire and ignited a house in Griffin.
Firemen say this happens more often
than you might think and is the cause of
some fires in church and other steeples.
Let’s not blame the birds, though. If
some human-types had not thrown live
cigarette butts out the birds would not
have picked them up.

things still go wrong and can bad things
happen to me now that I am a Christian. —
B M. G.
DEAR B. M. G.: God has not promised
that everything will go the way we want it
to just because we are Christians. In fact,
sometimes our lives may seem to be more
difficult just because we are following
Christ. Jesus said, “In the world ye shall
have tribulation” (John 16:33). He also
said, “The servant is not greater than his

lord. If they have persecuted me, they will
also persecute you” (John 15:20). You see,
sometimes it would be easier just to drift
along like the rest of the world. But Christ
calls us to follow Him, even if that means
resisting temptations or doing things that
unvelievers think are strange.
But don’t get discouraged. First,
remember that God is with you, even when
the going gets rough. Jesus said, “All
power is given unto me in heaven and in
earth. . .and, 10, I am with you always,
even unto the end of the world” (Matthew
28:18, 20). The apostle Paul had many
difficulties (see his list in II Corinthians
11:23-30). But he could also say, “I can do
all things through Christ which
strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
Also, remember that God can use things
that seem to us to be bad, to bring us closer
to Himself and make us more like He
wants us to be. “We glory in tribulations
also: knowing that tribulation worketh
patience; and patience, experience; and
experience, hope” (Romans 5:3-4).
To die
is to live
By BERTHA M. COMBS
The true meaning of death is expressed both physical
and spiritual. Everyone must die a physical death. Yet it
is up to each individual to decide his spiritual life, the way
his soul shall go. To receive true life one must cease evil ;
and seek to end gossip, malice, hate, envy, strife, jealousy
in the heart. Then through confession of one’s sins to God
and true repentence and sincere prayer to God for
forgiveness, salvation enters the heart and soul and a new
life begins.
To die to sin is to confess one’s sins, repent and pray to
God and God gives His saving grace and joy unspeakable
that no man can give and no man can take away and
Divine love that surpasses all understanding. The heart of
stone is taken away and a heart of flesh is given to the
seeker, a heart of love “the Lord thy God,” a heart to love «
his fellowman. The same promises that the Lord made
Israel centuries ago come down to present generations
today: “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit
will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart
out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh... and
I will be your God.” Ezekiel 36:26, 28.
To truly die to violence, to blasphemy and cursing, to
die to a sinful life is to be raised up unto a new life of
Divine peace and love by word and action. A seed, when it
is planted, must shed off the old coat and burst through the
husk into a new life when it comes up through the sod. The
seeking individual must shed off his sinful ways of life that
he may be raised into a new life of light and righteousness.
Every true seeker must have faith in God that God lives
and His Word is true; faith that Jesus is the Son of God,
the Promised Messiah; faith that Jesus sends the Com
forter, the Holy Spirit to man.
When the seeker falls postrate at the feet of Jesus ac
cepting Christ as Savior and Lord, then the seeker gives
up realizing that he is helpless, so he dies to sin and makes
a commitment to Jesus to take up his cross daily and
follow his Lord. Then salvation is come and the soul is
redeemed from sin.
Isaiah 43:25: “I even I, am he that blotteth out thy
transgressions from mine own sake, and will not
remember thy sins.” The wonderful promises that God
gives those who will believe on Him and trust Him for life,
bring hope and unspeakable joy into the heart of the true
believer. The Word of God still rings down the centuries
to man today. The years pass and many changes come,
but the Holy Bible is never obsolete. The Holy Scriptures
fit the times regardless of whether past, present or future.
Through timeless ages the Word of God sounded the
tidings of joy, of love, of faith, of hope of obedience unto
the Lord God of heaven and earth, Ruler of the universe.
If one will live truly and enter into the kingdom of God
he must be born again as Jesus said to Nicodemus: “Jesus
answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be
bom of the water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the
kingdom of God. ... Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye
must be born again.” St. John 3:5,7. These powerful words
still ring down the centuries to every human being. It is
important that each believer be sure that his sins are
forgiven him by God. The true seeker must steal away
from kindreds and friends to a place where he can even
hear the silence and absorb in silent prayer to God from
the depths of his soul. When the heart is in tune and the
soul deeply consecrated on the desires for righteousness,
then the Lord will meet the seeker and the Great Tran
saction is sealed with the Blood of Jesus. “To Die Is To
Live.”
