Longacres last year to earning
as much as SI,OOO a week, riding
six horses a day this year.
Though just an apprentice, she
is listed seventh among all top
jockeys with 35 first-place wins
in 284 rides. She says her suc
cess helps other women jockeys
at Longacres, and may open
doors for prospective riders.

New rates
approved
for Eastern
WASHINGTON (AP) - For
$299 apiece, two or more per
sons will be able to fly anywhere
on Eastern Airlines routes
under a fare plan that has been
sanctioned by the Civil
Aeronautics Board.
Delta and National Airlines
have filed similar plans with the
CAB, and action is pending on
those.
The Eastern plan, approved
Wednesday, also allows one
adult to travel anywhere on a
$299 ticket accompanied by two
or more children whose tickets
will cost $199 each.
Starting Saturday, travelers
will be able to buy tickets good
after Sept. 11 that will enable
them to make as many stops as
they choose on Eastern’s 105-
city route system in the United
States, Mexico, Canada, Ber
muda and the Caribbean.
The trips must last seven to 21
days and include at least three
stops. Tickets must be bought at
least 14 days in advance.
The discount fare plan does
not apply on certain days during
holiday periods.
Gov. Busbee
wants fewer
controls
ATLANTA (AP) - Gov.
George Busbee says the federal
tax structure may be placing
American business at a dis
advantage in international
markets.
Speaking to regional business
representatives Wednesday,
Busbee called on Congress to
lessen government controls and
alter tax regulations to allow
American businessmen to com
pete on a “morally and eco
nomically equitable” basis in
overseas markets.
“A belief among American
businessmen is growing that too
much unnecessary government
control and pressure is ham
pering the role of American
business abroad,” Busbee said.
Busbee’s comments were a
preview of a policy statement
he plans to present to the
Southern Governor’s Confer
ence next week in Austin, Tex.
He told the business group the
government should establish
tax deferral programs and
consideration of allowances for
accelerated depreciation, spe
cific deductions for export mar
ket development and special
deductions and credit related to
exports.
Busbee also urged Congress
not to take any action to “arbi
trarily” halt the growth of in
ternational banking in this
country.
