Challengers blast Jackson ATLANTA (AP) - The quali fying was barely over, but the campaigning already had be gun Friday as two challengers in the Atlanta mayor’s race blasted incumbent Maynard Jackson for his handling of city affairs. On the final day of qualifying for the Oct. 4 election, Jackson, Atlanta businessman Harold Dye and former city Adminis trative Services Commissioner Emma Darnell entered the race. Five arrested in sll-million drug bust ATLANTA (AP) - Three brothers were among five per sons arrested in a drug raid on the Georgia Coast Friday when more than sll million worth of marijuana was confiscated, au thorities said. Officers from at least eight agencies participated in the raid on two sites in the early morning hours Friday, author ities said. The surveillance escalated into four days and four nights of coordinated task forces,’’ Arangio said. The Georgia Bureau of Inves tigation said they believe the five persons were part of a larger drug smuggling ring. “Our indication is that this was of a continuing nature, that these people were part of a larger group,’’ said GBI agent Wiliam H. Shepherd. A boat and two pick-up trucks, with license tags from Michigan, Ohio and Florida, were confiscated at the site of the raids, Shephard said. The investigation involved the GBI, customs, the drug en forcement administration, the game and fish administration, and the sheriffs’ departments of Bryan, Liberty, Mclntosh and Chatham counties.
