The sessions will open at the Griffin High library at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served in the school cafeteria. The presidents of local county units will discuss plans of work for the year. Mrs. Clara West, president of the state association, will discuss professional growth of the organization. The theme of the meeting is “Count Us In.” Educators may have retired but not to the proverbial rocking chair. There are 3 special com mittees working with com munity affairs, informative and protective services, and pre retirement education. District 6 chairmen for these committees are Mrs. Thelma Prosser from Butts County, Miss Ruth Branan from Bibb County, and Mrs. Ora Johnson from Coweta County. Expensive equipment lost here The Spalding Sheriff’s Department has asked Grif finites to help locate an ex pensive piece of surveying equipment that fell from the back of a truck Wednesday. Steve Pierson of 30 Pryor street, Atlanta, told sheriff’s officials that the transit in strument, described as a A. S. GIO Metti, probably was lost after he left Hook’s Grocery on the Williamson road about 3:50 p.m. It was in a dark green box about 18 x 10 inches and was valued at around $1,500. Pierson said when he discovered it was missing, he retraced his route of travel but failed to find it. He asked anyone who knows its whereabouts to contact the sheriff’s department. Jaycees plan haunted house The Griffin-Spalding Jaycees will operate a haunted house through the Halloween season beginning on the night of Oct. 22. The house will be at 417 West Poplar street. Proceeds from the house will be used for community service projects. What’s happening k II Prayer supper A prayer supper will be Saturday night at 7 o’clock at Mt. Zion campground. A meeting of the campground trustees will follow the supper. Revival continues Revival services will continue through Friday night at the New Hope Baptist Church in Pike County with the Rev. Kenneth Jordan as the evangelist. He is brother of the pastor, the Rev. Thomas Jordan. Crime roundup 4 men accused of coin thefts Four men were arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly breaking into the coin boxes of some clothes dryers at the Northgate Washerette in Northgate Shopping Center. Griffin police said they received a call that some men were breaking into the machines and when the officers arrived, they saw the suspects attempting to leave in an automobile. The four were placed under arrest. A small amount of money which had apparently been removed from the dryers was on the floor of the car. The men were identified as Curtis Slator, 20, 412 Rabun street; Ruben Lewis Trice, 23, 321 North Sixth street; John Fuller, Jr., 23, 818 North Ninth street; and Dwight Long, 20,557 Basin street. (AP) — Workmen have resumed widening Interstate 75 in Clayton County after state trans portation authorities filed an appeal of a temporary in junction imposed on behalf of three motels which claim the project will put them out of business. The motel owners claim the project will destroy their “access rights” to the interstate highway. Deaths and funerals —— Mrs. Banks Mrs. Frances Jones Banks, 87, of Zebulon, died Wednesday afternoon at the Griffin- Spalding Hospital where she was admitted on Sunday. Mrs. Banks was the widow of Mr. Cadesman Pope Banks and a native of Griffin, daughter of the late Henry Hiram Jones and the late Eula Belle Rose Banks. She had been a resident of Zebulon for 70 years and was a member of the Zebulon United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. William K. Walker, Sr., of Zebulon; a son, Cadesman Pope Banks, Jr., of Zebulon; 2 brothers, Frank A. Jones of Crescent City, Fla., and H. H. Jones of Dallas, Tex.; 2 sisters, Mrs. Claude Vaughn of Griffin and Mrs. L. M. Wilkie of Clarkston; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mamie Jones of Griffin; 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The funeral will be Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock in the Zebulon United Methodist Church. The Rev. Warren Jones and the Rev. Paul Davis will officiate and burial will be in the Methodist Church cemetery. The body will remain at Haisten Funeral Home in Griffin until carried to the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour. Mr. Smith Mr. William Floyd Smith of Ellis road, Route 3, Griffin, died this morning at his home after an illness of several months. Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Spalding County, son of the late George W. Smith and the late Ella B. Head Smith. He was a retired employe of Dundee Mill No. One and a member of the New Salem Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mae Evelyn Simmons Smith; 5 daughters, Mrs. Geneva Payne, Mrs. Gaynelle Steele, Mrs. Christine Maddox, Mrs. Mary Harris, all of Griffin and Mrs. Irma Buffington of Milner; 2 sons, Byron G. Smith and James Smith, both of Griffin; a sister, Mrs. Roxie Martin of Griffin; 12 grand children and 15 great grandchildren.
