’—Griffin Daily News Monday, October 3, 1977 Page 2 Midterm grade reports issued Midterm grade reports for the fall quarter will be issued by all Spalding Junior High Units and Griffin High School Oct. 10. Parents are urged to study the reports carefully and contact the school if there are questions or if a teacher con ference is desired. Pre-registration for the winter quarter has been scheduled in grades 8-12 ac cording to the following schedule: Spalding Junior High, Unit I (9th grade) Oct. 4-7. Spalding Junior High, Unit II (Bth grade) Oct. 12-18. Griffin High School - Oct. 12- 14. Seventh grade students will be registered by their teachers and counselors. Quarter course catalogs may be checked out from the school during the pre-registration periods designated. Parents are encouraged to help their children plan their winter quarter courses. School counselors should be contacted if help is needed. Students should also discuss their course needs with their present teachers in the various subject areas. What’s happening Art Association The Griffin-Spalding Art Association will meet Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Flint River Library meeting room for the October meeting. Referendum The Griffin Branch of the N.A.A.C.P. and the Griffin N.A.N.B.P.W. will host a meeting Tuesday night at 7:30 at Moore Elementary School to discuss the school bond referendum with the Education ’77 bond committee. AAUW reception The American Association of University Women will have a reception for women teachers in the Griffin- Spalding School System tonight at the education building of the First Presbyterian Church. It will begin at 7:30. Mrs. Fran Boggs is president of the AAUW. Ministers Postmaster James T. Chappell will be guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Griffin Area Ministerial Association on Wednesday. ABC Club The Griffin American Business Club will hold a business meeting on Tuesday at its regular meeting held at the Moose Lodge at 12:15 p.m. Exchange Club Johnny Caldwell, Jr. of Thomaston, new district Attorney, will be guest speaker at the meeting of Exchange Club of Griffin on Tuesday, at noon, at the Moose Lodge. Expressway, Griffin Deaths and funerals Mr. Hudgins II Mr. William Clayton Hudgins 11, 78 of Route 1, Fort Valley road, Yatesville, died Sunday morning at the Upson County Hospital in Thomaston where he had been a patient for 3 weeks. Mr. Hudgins was born in Tate, Ga., and had made his home in Lamar County for 25 years. He was owner and operator of the Country Court Motel and was a member of Pinta Lodge 88 of Masons. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie Patterson Hudgins of Yatesville; a daughter, Mrs. Richard C. Wagner of Goshem, Ky.; a son, Paul Hudgins of Yatesville; 4 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Cleo Bradley of Marietta; several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be 2 o’clock Tuesday in Haisten Funeral Home chapel in Barnesville. The Rev. Franklin Gibson will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood cemetery. Mr. Fowler Mr. Lloyd C. Fowler, 66, of 130 Woodmont drive, died Sunday night at the Griffin-Spalding Hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for several days for a heart ailment. Before he retired several years ago, Mr. Fowler was associated with Security Life Insurance Co. here. He was a native of Wedowee, Ala., and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Childer sburg, Ala. Mr. Fowler was a veteran of World War 11, serving in the Navy. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Garrison Fowler; a son, Edward Fowler, both of Griffin; 2 daughters, Mrs. Agnes Ogle of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Mrs. Evelyn Phillips of Tullahoma, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Stewart of Blue Mountain, Ala.; 3 brothers, E. V. Fowler of Sylacauga, Ala., Arvel Fowler of Tifton and Burt Fowler of Jasper, Ala.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:30 o’clock in the Hammond Drive Baptist Church. The Rev. Brady Blalock will officiate and entombment will be in Oak Hill mausoleum. Mr. Barkley Mr. Willie Roy Barkley of 723- A Heritage Heights was dead on arrival at the Griffin-Spalding Hospital Sunday night. He was bom in Butts County, son of the late Ed Barkley and the late Florence Foster Barkley. He was a member of the Bethel Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Stone, Jr. Mr. Robert Edward Stone, Jr., 39, of 115 Loumae drive was dead on arrival at the Griffin- Spalding Hospital Sunday af ternoon. Mr. Stone was an employe of the Forest Park Post Office and had resided here for 4 years. Prior to coming to Griffin he served in the U. S. Air Force for 13 years and was retired due to disability as a staff sergeant. He was a native of LaGrange and was a member of the Crestview Baptist Church here. He was a member of the Carroll Lodge 69 of Masons. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. I-ois Leonard Stone; 3 sons, Charles Edward Stone, David Curtis and Kenneth Lee Stone, all of Griffin; father, Robert E. Stone, Sr., mother, Mrs. Ruth Yeager, both of LaGrange, brother, James Curtis Stone of LaGrange; sister, Mrs. Mattie Crews of Jacksonville, Fla. Haisten Funeral Home of Griffin is in charge of plans. Mr. Tidwell Mr. Richard Eugene Tidwell of Columbus died at Cobb Memorial Hospital in Phenix City, Ala., Sunday morning. Mr. Tidwell was bom in Carroll County and had lived in Griffin for most of his life before moving to Columbus. He served 18 years in the U. S. Armed Forces. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Donna Bennett Tidwell; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William M. Tidwell of Sunny Side; a daughter, Mrs. Deborah Self of Columbus; 2 sons, Kenneth Richard Tidwell and Benjamin Matthew Tidwell, both of Columbus; a sister, Mrs. D. A. Robinson 111 of Griffin; 2 brothers, Henry William Tid well of Louisville, Ky., and Buford E. Tidwell of Griffin; 5 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 o’clock in the West Sunriy Side Congregational Holiness Church. The Rev. Raymond Chambers and the Rev. Her man Hearn will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Bennett, Jr., on School road. The body will remain at McDonald Chapel. Mrs. Williams Mrs. Gertrude Bond Williams, widow of Mr. Fielding Powell Williams, died Sunday night at the Westbury Nursing Home in McDonough. Mrs. Williams was bom in Franklin Springs, Ga., and had lived in Griffin for the past 41 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was a retired employe of Dundee Mills. Survivors include 2 daughters, Mrs. Roberta Martin of Griffin and Mrs. Bernice Cochran of Atlanta; 2 sons, Robert Williams of Fitz gerald and Lamar Williams of Atlanta; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Wed nesday morning at 11 o’clock in McDonald Chapel. The Rev. David L. Wood will officiate and burial will be in the Man chester, Ga., cemetery. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home between 7 and 9 p.m. Mrs. Taylor Mrs. Sara Noel Taylor of 1330 North Cherokee avenue died Sunday morning at the Griffin- Spalding Hospital where she had been a patient for 12 days. Mrs. Taylor was bom in Griffin, daughter of the late Richard E. Noel and the late Katie Wesley Noel. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, A. Ralph Taylor; son, Ralph Larry Taylor of Chula Vista, Calif.; 2 grandchildren, Miss Jennifer Taylor and Jonathan Taylor, both of Chula Vista; several nieces and nephews. The funeral was this af ternoon at 3 o’clock in Pittman Rawls Funeral Home chapel. Dr. Bruck Morgan and the Rev. Hartwell Kennedy officiated and burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.
