Band Boosters Club elects new officers The Band Boosters Club met in the band room at Griffin High School recently for the purpose of electing officers and planning activities for the ’77 - ’7B school year. The officers for this year are: John Allison, president; Mrs. Bemadine Releford, first vice president; Robert Raunikar, second vice president; Mrs. Linda Fields, secretary; Dr. Jim Skinner, New Works NEW YORK (AP) — “Recent Gifts and Purchases,” an ex hibit of works added to the Guggenheim Museum collec tion during 1977, will be on display through Oct. 16. The club seeks to support the instrumental music depart ments throughout the school system by providing funds for the purchase of uniforms, special (and expensive) in struments and other ex traordinary needs. Fur thermore, the club seeks to develop a greater sense of appreciation for the public performances of the school system’s bands. Membership in the Band Boosters Club is open to the public and not only to band member parents. Regular membership dues are SI.OO per person per year with patron membership of SIO.OO entitling 2 individuals to membership,, admission to all band concerts and their names listed as patrons in concert programs. Information on membership can be obtained from club of ficiers or from Mr. Turner at Griffin High School. Towaliga District BSA to hold Fall Camporee The Towaliga District BSA will hold their Fall Camporee for all troops in Spalding County on Oct. 21, 22 and 23. The camporee will be held on the A.D. Shackelford farm on Shackelford road. All troops within Spalding Risher named NEW YORK (AP) - Carol A. Risher has joined the staff of the Association of American • Publishers Washington office as staff director-copyright. Ms. Risher will be the AAP representative on copyright matters. She had been informa tion officer for the National Commission on New Tech nological Uses of Copyrighted Works. County are expected to attend with their scouts for a fun-filled weekend. Each troop will submit a patch design at the camporee. The best design will be used for a patch to be or dered at a later date. While at the camporee scouts will enter competitive events such as first aid, rope tie, tent pitching, etc. Troops will check in after school on Friday and depart early Sunday morning in time for the scouts to be back in their own churches. Religious ser vices will be provided early Sunday for those wishing to attend. The camporee will be held rain or shine. Page 11 Grand jury delivers 2 murder indictments The Spalding County Grand Jury returned 68 criminal in dictments this week. The 44 old cases will bring the number on the criminal court docket to 112. The grand jury also returned 31 no bills. They did not indict Donnie Banks of 206 West Tinsley street in connection with the traffic deaths of two Griffin women on June 25. He had been charged with homicide by motor vehicle after his auto struck Mrs. Frances Knighton and Mrs. Louise Parker as they were walking on West Taylor street. Both women died from the injuries. Edward Davis, Jr., of Sunset Strip in Pomona, was not in dicted for the shooting death of Lorenza Ethridge on Sept. 5. He had been charged with murder following an argument between the two men. The indictments included two murders and a kidnapping. Billie Mae Brantley was in dicted for murder in the death of her mother, Mrs. Cora Mildred Cawthon, 73, at their home at 839 Meriwether street, Aug. 6. Mrs. Cawthon allegedly was beaten to death with a hammer, iron skillet and smoothing iron, the indictment read. Francis Jackson Evans also was indicted for murder in the May 10 shooting death of Daniel Boyd Milton. Richard Leon Shell, Route 1, Brooks, was indicted for homicide by motor vehicle in the second degree. He was driving a car involved in a collision with an auto driven by David Lamar Wright of Con cord, who died from the in juries. Roger J.W. Kicks, Jr. of 415 Springview drive, was indicted for allegedly kidnapping Peggy I—Griffin Daily News Friday, October 7, 1977 Walker of East Broadway on Sept. 2. He was accused of forcing her to go with him as she was leaving her work at Northgate Shopping Center. Police officers followed him into some woods near West Building Center. Five persons were indicted for fraud in obtaining public assistance, Medicaid and food stamps.
