Hue misfortune I employed myself in perusing tha
fragment lo*v«u of an old volume, printed in hug
lend eome hundred year* ago. Among these
•catierod leaves I road ol'an herb which hud boon
analysed by liome of England's ancient Alchn-
nieie, ahewiug properties aud t|Ualitio.a never be*
. fore found in any plant that waa ever discovered-
. Thia one herb, under the force of tho Retort
end Crucible, developed more than ten distinct
properties. This fuel struck my mii)d so forcibly,
■at it was impossible to get rid of it. Something
roomed to tell me that Providence, whose special
taro ia attended towards all his rrcaiuros, had
,BOvor concentrated into one small herb so many
medicinal qualities, as various and as complicuted,
although perfectly identical as the human Mood,
without a wist aud good purpose. Ilcrc was to
bo found the acids, tho alkalis, the oils, the water,
tho air, the salts, the soda, Ac.., ail combined, con*
eentrated, and chomieaily united into one single
alamont of power, forming a substance more nl-
liod and in affinity to the human blood than was
ovar before discovered in the works of nature. .
Laboring under those* impressions for several
years, I became uneasy, discontented, aud tin-
willing to coniine myself longer to tho duties of a
farmer.
Every thing seemed to point my mind to one
object, viz.: the preparation of this herb into a
medicine. I then determined to return to tho city
•f N, York. 1 did so, and immediately inquired
fbr the herb. It was not to bo found. I then
•out to Europe and there fouud it under another
Mine.
Having prepared the article to my satisfaction,
t gave it away to all who would use it. Hun
dreds, I might say thousands, took it into their
families and need it: some for one thing aud
soma for another, and *nll from tho very Hist to
the very last, pronounced it of unrivaled excel
lence and power.
The first ease that came under my observation,
was a man that had lost the uso of his nrtn for
tome years. The Ointment restored his arm
completely in a fow days. This surprised me as
mnen as it did the patient. After him there came
a man with sore e ves produced by gunpowder—a
very bad case indeed. One box only sutlicied to
make a perfect cure. And I woutd’hero remark
that hundreds have been cured of sore eyes,
who never found any relief but in this Clint-
tnent.
Thera next camo a woman who was suffering
•xemeiafme pain from the ng;to in the face.—
Her physician (thinking it the toothache.) had
extracted eleven of her teeth. Dut the difficulty
still remained as bad as over. Tho Application
of the All Healiug Ointment was attended with
immediate cessation of pain, ilcr face however,
begin to swell, and tho surface was covered over
with pimples of eruption like prickly heat. In
•ne day all this disappeared. About the same
time, a lady made application with it fur the
headache of long standing, and a falling of the
hair. The Ointment cured her headache, and
restored her hair. Since this, I have known tho
Ointment to euro cases of ten, twenty and* forty
years standing. I hesitate not to say, that it is
almost an infallible remedy for this complaint.
About this time there were two cases, uue of
Consumption, and the other of Scrofula, which
had baffled the skill of every physician who pros
cribed. It was wonderful to witness tho elfeetof
the Ointment on these persons, No one would
believe it unless thoy had personally witnessed it.
But it did the work properly. There was no half
way business, for they reeoiered their health in a
few months.
Rhenmntism, Fever, Quinzv, Sore Throat, Cu
taneous Eruptions, diseases of the Spine, and
Nervous Complaints wore treated with unheard
of sueeess. Butin Chest diseases, such as Asth
ma, pain and oppression, I believe there is no bet
ter remedy. Also, tho common diseases, such as
Ulcer Sores. Scald Head, Humors of tho .Skin,
Inflammation, Files, Sore Eyes, Sprains, Bruises,
end Burns, it scorns to he a perfect antidote.—
People would come iuto the store smiling, wish
ing to know if I was really the Seventh Bon, or
whether the Ointment that 1 gave them was indeed
all-healing in its nature. For said thoy, not one
single application has failed to cure.
Liver Complaint, particularly, was treated with
great and universal success.
: It prodneed such good results in all cases that it
hat been noised abroad, and I was offered sums of
jaoney for a receipt to make it for private uso
merely. Every man epoko well of it, as it had
done so much good.
Not withstanding all, l have been careful hot to
reeomtnend it, except in cases I knew it would do
5 sod. I was never willing to lend myself to any
ling without'first totting its merits. ’This I en
deavor to do on every occasion, and when I acted
as one of the Sick Committee in Ilia Lodgo of I.
O. of O. F. I then tested it upon Brothers in the
most critical conditions, and had abundant oppor
(unity of proving its worth.
' And, in conclusion, I would remark that I have
8 laced this Ointment before the people of tho I’,
itateeduring the lust niue or twelve months, and
so general has been tho satisfaction, and so great
•mount of good done, that more than half a mill
ion of boxes havo already been sold. 1 do really
believe tbore never was a medicine which gained
aueh widespread, universal and unanimous satis-
factional the All-Healing Ointment. From all
parts of the land there have come up one deep,
•Jnceroand universal voice of n<,probation saving
♦‘McAlister thy tongue hath dropped the word of
truth and love, whilo health forever attends thy
foot steps." And were I now to give nil the gon’d
savings of the people, thoir unqualified approval,
their thankfulness and gratitude, their jov at recov

Hunt’s Merchant’s Magazine makes the follow
ing comments upon this useful and convenient
article:
Fairbanks Platform Seales.—It is not often that
wo are induced to laud an article of trade, ami
we never do unless perfectly satisfied that wo aro
commending something that is useful. Wo can
not consent to gratifv tint cupidity of an indivi
dual, at tho risk of imposing the confidence of
thousands of our readers who rol v upon tho lion-
esty of our statements, if not in tlm infafibility of
on’r judmont. That great improvement* have
been made within n few yours, in the instruments
of weighing merchandise, is a fact familiar to busi
ness men. The antiune clumsy ami inaccurate
methods of weighing, nave given way to the in
vention of American mechanical skill, and the ut
most precision has been attained. A variety of
Platform Balances aro manufactured and used,
which cannot ho relied on for any considerable
degree of aeon racy: so that they necessarily in
volve otto party in pecuniary loss. It therefore
affords us pleasure to refer to the Platform Scales
of Mr. Fuirlmnk, which have been extensively
used in all parts of tho United States for several
yours, umi given, as far ns our knowludged ex
tends, very general satisfaction. We purchased
one uf these scales throe years since, ami have us
ed them constantly for weighing paper, Ac. ami
fur accuracy and durability, wo tiro quite sure,
thoy have not, mid perhaps cannot, be surpassed.
The plan of construction is philosophical umi
simple. Tho employment of two levers, with a
single honm, is certainly tho most practicable, in
a compound platform balance. Any increase of
tho number of lovers or an additional beam, ren
ders the instrument more complicated, less precise
in its operation and more liulilo to "derangement.
These scales aro used by many of tho loading
merchants of Now York, whoso written testimony
to their superior excellence has been freely ac
corded to tho nmuitfiicturera. juuo 1)
