T HIS Institution went into operation In 1861. At tbeir
session In 1861-'2, the Legislature incorporated it as
a College. By requisition on tlie General Government, fur
nished it with anna, both for infantry and artillery, and
:uit. 80 do provldod Tor the education of a certain number of Slate
Cadets. The Legislature also directed a Board of Visiters
to be appointed, of whom the Governor is ex-officio Presi-
dent, whose duties are to inspect tho Institution, attend its
examinations,and reporton its condition to tlio Legislature;
and. in conjunction with a Committee of the Board of
Trustees to establish and declare proper regulations for its
government. Theso regulations hare been published. The
course of study, methods of teaching and the discipline
which they prescribe are. as nearly as possible,those of the
United States Military Academy. Any person Interested
may obtain a copy of thorn by applying to the superinten
dent. Tho next Academic vear will commence on Monday,
June 10th, and all who desire to enter should bo present on
