there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting
onds ora few papers, and the backs of one or two of
the books, caused by the steam generated to toe
Soft, while at Its greatest heat.
The Safo and contents, as it came from the ruins,
may still be seen, in too possession of Mr. Thomas,
at too Gas Works. A large assortment or these cele
brated Safes always on hand,and for sale by

Each proposal must state distinctly too price for
which the entire ration will he furnished ou hoard
each light-vessel respectively.
Tho proposals for supplying fuel, both coal und
wood, must etato distinctly the price per ton utid
cord, und tho kiud und quulity of each, to ho deliver
cd ou board or each light-vessel respectively.
One bidder may oiler for all tho rations amt fuel
required for nil too light vessols in tills district, or
for ouo or more of tho vessels separately, at his mvu
option. Tbo kind aud quauttty of fuel will ho dotor-
raluod upon, and tho contractor Informed accord
ingly. to advance of tho time for muktug the quar
terly deliveries of rations on board of the respective
light-vessels.
Each biddor is required to attach to his bid or
bids a weitteu guarantee, signed by himself uml a
responsible surety, that, to tho event of the contract
being awarded to him, he wilt faithfully execute It
m conformity to the terms of thl3 advertisement.
The contractor will bo required to enter into bond
with uppruved security for the faiththl oxecutlou of
tho contract; and no bid will be accepted or contract
entered into, until uppruved by tnc Light House
Board.
The contractor will be required to keep ut least,
in the aggregate, one month's rations for the entire
crew of the light-vessel contracted for, on board at
all times; and uny expense incurred on account of
failure to deliver rations or fuel in time, will bo
chargeable to the contractor.
No member of Congress, lightkeeper, superinten
dent or inspector of lights, nor uny person connect-

No contractor, superintendent, or inspector will
be allowed to change the parts of the ration, nor tho

of light-vessels will be examined, aud their quulity
approved by the superintendent, or the inspector of
toe district, or by such other persou os may bo as

preservation. It was, in our opinion, as severe «
testa* could be had. A large four story buildup
entirely destroyed, and the solo remained the wliule
time surrounded by fire, and subject to an intense
heat, for forty days before dug from the rums.

Adams’ Saks.—Ono of Herring’s celebrated Fire-
S roof Sales was in Adams’ Express Offline when dip
ullding was burned several weeks ago. It rentatu-
id buried in too rubbish until Thursday, wku it
was token out. The fire, on tho occasion alluded to,
was oue of the fiercest wo ever saw, aud when the
chost was found, after a lapse of forty days, H wm
lurrouiidod by embers, glowing brightly. When
opened, the papers, aud other articles it contained,
were found to be sound and generally In good condi
tion, thus affording another proof of the security tmil
superiority of those safes. Tbo ouo alluded to may
bo seen at the ware-house of Messrs. Rowland a
