fires In 1852 at New York, Philadelphia, Cheraw, S.
C., Montreal, Canada, St. Louis and Ogdens burg, aud
many others.
The metal portion of these Safes consists of tho
stoutest and tougheat wrought bar and plate irou,
and the space betwoen the outer and inner surfaces
is filled with a chemical preparation, which is the
most perfect non-conductor of heat yet discovered,
and which cannot be effected or ponetrate by fire.—
This fact has been established beyond questiou by
the results of many experiments, attested by per
sons of tho highest respectability. Iu every trlul to
which the genuine Salamander Safe has been sub
jected, whether accidental lu burning buildings, or
by agreement for tbo purpose of competition, its tire-
proof properties havo proved immeasurably superior
to those of any (so called) fire-proof Safeover niunu
Sutured.
By an improvement upon tho original Salamander,
introduced by tho present owner of the patent-right,
the interior Is rendered wholly Impervious to damp,
and books, papers and Jqwelry might be preserved
in one of his safes for a century without contracting
a blemish from mould or mlildew.
To guard agalust counterfeits every Safo (Vora the
manufactory or the subscriber, and sold by him or
his agents, has a brass piato In Trout, bearing his
name; each is also furnished with one of bis im
proved Thief Detecting Locks, which is a good guar
antee against robbery.

containing the books, pajiers. and money of Mr.
Thomas, and although the building was detroyed,
tbo said Safe sustained no injury whatever from tho
intenso boat to which it had been exposed. On open
Ing tho Sole, tbo contents wero found undisturbed,
and in the same ordor and condition as when placed
there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting
ends of a row papers, and the backs of one or two o'
the books, caused by the stoam generated in tho
Safe, while at its greatest heat.
Tho Salo and contents, as it came from the ruins,
may still be seen, in.the possession of Mr. Thomas,
at tho Gas Works. A large assortment of these cele
brated Safes always on hand,and for sale by
