Collection district, viz.; at Martin’s Industry and
Tybce Island Kuoll, for one year from the first day
of July 1553, to the 30th June. 1857, inclusive. The
rations to be or good and approved quality, to be
delivered iu good and sufficient packages, barrel*,
boxes aud cases, and In good order, oo board the
above named light-vessels, at least once a quarter,

It is gratifying to the proprietor or these mediciues
to be able to state that it Is now nearly three years
since they were first introduced, during which time
they have been extensively used in various parts or
the United States, and have given to patient and
practitioner the highest degree of satisfaction iu the
various cases In which they have been employed ;
whether iu town, country, hospital or private prac
tice, they have invariably given the most decided
and unequivocal satisfaction, and produced the most

chargeable to the contractor.
No member of Congress, lightkeeper. suimriaten-
dent or inspector of lights, nor &nv person connect
ed with the light house establishment, will bo al
lowed to contract for or deliver rations for the crew,
or fuel of a light-vessel, nor to be interested m such
contract.
No contractor, superintendent, or inspector will
be allowed to change tbe parts of tho ration, nor the
times that may be determined upon for the delivery,
without authority^tbe Board.
Ail the articles constituting the ration for the crew
ance to the public and to the faculty that there
should be standard preparations of uniform streugth
and possessing tho most advantages. To effect this
and obviate the evil alluded to, 1 have made a uum
ber or experiments to ascertain the most effectual
mode of extracting the virtues of the Sarsaparilla
and the Buchu, and to discover tbe most eligible
form for their exhibition. The experiments have
resulted most favorably, and it Is with much pleas
ure I now offer to the public and the faculty mv

intense heat to which it had been exposed. On open
ing the Safe, the contents were found undisturbed,
and in tbe same order and condition as when placed
there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting
ends of a few papers, and the backs of one or two of
the books, caused by the steam generated in the
Safe, while at its greatest beat.
Tbe Safe and contents, aa it came from the ruins,
may still be seen, in the possession of Mr. Thomas,
at the Gas Works. A large assortment of these cele

Fire-Proor Safe, which we purchased from von iu
tbe month of January fast, was situated m our
Counting Room, in the second storv of 231 Market
street, on the night of the Great Fire 1st Mav, 1856
and fell with the buruing building in that* coofla
gation.
The safe was reached this afternoon, after an ex
posure of Thirty Six Hour? to intense heat, and al
though the brass plates on the trout of the Safe
were melted, and the exterior shows the evidence
of extreme heat, the inside casing was found to be
untouched by fire, and, with the exception of being
a little steamed, is now a* good as new •
