The friends of all the candidates are uonll-
deut that the Missouri Benton delegates were
excluded by the National Committee, to whom
the question was submitted.
The New York contestants will go before the
Convention. It Is intimated that tho Conven
tion will compel them to compromise, by refus
ing to receive either.
The Mississippi delegation will vote for Pierce
aud Quitman.
The Buchanan men asset! that the assault on
Sumner gained Buchanan 20 votes.
A resolution will be Introduced to exclude
office-holders from future Conventions.

tion. «.
A Committe on credentials wss appointed,
consisting of one from each State.
BIr. Richardson, of Illinois, in alluding to the
Issourl [Benton] delegation, said the Conven
tion must protect itself against insult and vio
lence.
Mr. Hall, of Missouri, attempted to justify,
but the Chairman reihsed to recognize him, ana
inally the Benton Delegates withdrew amid
loud cheers.

THE COSTA RICANS GONE HOME.
New York. June 1.—The steamer Orizaba,
from San Juan, arrived here to-day, with four
hundred passengers from California, brought
down by the Sierra Nevada. Dates from Nica
ragua are to'the 29tb inst.
The Transit route was again opeu and quiet
was restored to Nicaragua—the Costa Ricans
having evacuated the. country without another
battle.
President Mora left with his staff on the 20th
April, and his army followed almost immediate
ly after. The Cholera had made sad havoc in
the ranks of the Costa Rican army. Gen. Walker
landed at Virgin Bay on the 30th April, only a
few hours after the last detachment of the ene
my had left
Gen. Walker was in good health, and the array
generally, was in good condition, except at
Grenada, where the Mver had been very severe
and feveral Americans had fallen victims to it
James Walker, brother to Gen. Walker, died
onthe,15th inst Mujor Edmund Randolph, of
Virginia, is dangerously ill.
Gen. Homely had command of the Depart
ment of Blerida, which is composed of Guana-
costa and Rivas.
Advices received at Grenada from Costa Ri
ca, intimate that the country will fall ;from in
ternal commotion, there being a prospect for the
overthrow of President Mora.
The elections were being held in Nicaragua,
and it was considered certain that President Ri
vas would be re elected.
The British frigate Eurydlce and steamer
Hermou were at San Juan, but made no oppo
sition to the landing of passengers.
Lieut. Bonaparte, formerly of the Army of the
Uuited States, late of tho Crimean army, where
