cessary to discharge a part of her cargo, and to
bring her up to the city of Savannah lor repairs, at
great expense and loss of time; that it is impossible
to ascertain exactly what will be the extent of the
damages, bet as far as calculation can be made the

burg to dinner, and thence, via the Virginia and
Tennessee Railroad, reach Bonsack’s Depot at 3 1-4,
and Salem at 4 P. M., and at either place take
Kent, Summeraott A Co’i Fine Line of
Stages!
Those via Bonsack’s lodge at Fincastle. time at the
Red Sweet, or Sweet springs, and arrive at the
White Sulphur Springs, (17 miles) early on the
evening of the sec<«d day from Petersburg, or Rich
mond, without NIGHT TRAVEL, and with but 64
miles of Staging. Or by the Salem route, stop all
night at the Roanoke Red Sulphur Springs, (10
miles distant from Salem.) dine at the Red Sweet,
or Sweet Spring!, and arrive at the White Sulphur
Springs on the evening of the fellowing day.
The Virginia k Tennessee Railroad is located
through a most romantic country, possessing a cli
mate unsurpassed for its salubrity and delightful tem
perature. Tbe road passes the base of the
PEAKSOF OTTER!
And within three miles of the Alleghany Springs,
one mile of the Montgomery White Sulphur Spring;,
and within four miles of the Yellow Sulphur Springs
all pleasantly situated a few miles apart, on the
Eastern slope of the Alleghany mountain, in Mont
gomery county. The waters of these Springs are
celebrated for their great medicinal qualities.'the ac
commodations are excellent, and have been greatly
increased since last season.

Kent. Summerson k Go’s Stages at New Peru Depot,
on tbe evening of the day that they leave Peters
burg or Pdchmond. and arrive at the Springs on the
following day to dinner, and Salt Sulphur Springs
early in the evening of the second day from Rich
mond or Petersburg.
The Road from Nevbt-rn Depot to the Itc-d Sul
phur Springs, (3i mile;,) ba« been graded and
greatly improved since last season, and is now re
garded asone of the best turnpikes in the moun
tains.
The line of Telegraph from Richmond will be com
pleted and in operation to the Montgomery White
Sulphur Springs early in June.

Summerson k (Vs stages at the Western terminus
of the Virginia k Tennessee Raiiroad. now 180 miles
from Lynchburg (and being extended Westward at

interne heat to which it had been exposed. Ou open
ing the Safe, the contents were found undisturbed,
and to tbe same order and condition as when place-1
there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting
ends of a few papers, and the backs of one or two of
the books, caused by the steam generated in the
Safe, while at its greatest heat.
Tbe Sale and contents, as it came from the ruto3,
may still be seen, in the possession of Mr. Thomas,
