which Thomas Williams Is and lately was master,
that on tho night of the fifth of April, In tho year
eighteen hundred and filty six. tho said ship Eliza
beth was lying lu the River Ravaunah, at Venus’
Point, wolllu shore, and was at that time a staunch
and well built ship, of the burthen or niue hundred
And fifty tons, or thereabouts, and sufficiently pro;
vhied with apparel, tacklo and furniture, and pro
perly manned with a sufficient crow to work and
navigate said ship, that on tho said night of the filth
of April, eighteen huudrod and fifty-six, about sovon
o’clock in the evening, a signal lantern was hung
out In the fbrestay of suid ship Elizabeth; that abbut
eight o’clock on tho night ortho said fifth or April,
whilst the said ship Elizabeth was so lying at Vonus
Point, In the Savannah River, within the obb and
flour of tbo tide, and within the admiralty aud mara-

castle of said ship Elizabeth, brooking five of the
forecastle beams, started the deck, carriod away
the bowsprit, and other datuago did to the said ship
Elizabeth, as In said libel is stated, rendering It no*
ceasary to discharge a part or hor cargo, and to
bring her up to the city or Savannah for repairs, at

States Court Room in the city of Savannah, on the

from Lynchburg (and being extended Westward at

the Said Safo sustained ho injury whatever from the
Intense heat to which It bad been exposed. On open
ing the Safo, the contonta were found undisturbed,
and in the same order and oondltlon as when placed
there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting
ends ofa few papers; and the books of one or two of
the books, caused by the steam generated In the
Safo, while at Its greatest heat.
Tbe Sale and contents, as it came from the ruins,
may still be seen, In the possession of Mr. Thomas,
at tho Gas Works. A large assortment of these cele
brated Safes always on hand,and for sale by

Each proposal must state ilistinctiv tbe price for
which the entire ration will be furnished on board
each Ught-vessel respectively.
Ths proposals for supplying foel, both coal and
wood, must state distinctly tue price per ton and
cord, and tho kiud and quality of oooh, to be deliver
ed on board ofeaoh light-vessel respectively.
One bidder may oiler for all tbe rations and fuel
required for all tue light vessels In tills district, or
for one or more of tho vobsoIs separately, at bis owu
option. The kind and quantity or fuel will be deter
mined upon, and the contractor Informed accord
ingly. in advauce of the tlmo for making the quar
terly deliveries of rations on board of the respective
light-vessels.
Each bidder Is required to attach to his bid or
bids a written guarantee, signed by himself and a
responsible surety, that, In the event of the contract
being awarded to him, he will faithfully execute It
in conformity to the terms or this advertisement.
The contractor will bo required to enter Into boqd
with approved security for the raithtal execution of
the contract; and no bid will bo accepted or contract
entered into, until approved by the Light House
Board.

No contractor, superintendent, or inspector will
be allowed to change the purta of thu ration, nor tho
timos that may ho determined upou for tho delivery,
without authority of tho Board.
All the articles constituting tho rution for the crow
of light-vessols will be examined, aud their quality
approved by tbo superintendent, or the inspector or
Uio district, or by such other person usnui/ bo as
signed to perforin that duty ; und no bills will bo
G ald for rations and fuel which are not accompanied
y receipts duly signed by tho respectlvo llght-vos-
sel keepers for tho different articles constituting tho
rations for the crew for each quarter, and separate
receipts for tho kind and quantity of fuel delivered

No bid which Is not properly sealed and endorsed
will be considered, and no bids will be received or

quently Improperly made, and not (infrequently
much Impaired, if not rendered totally inert, by tho
injudicious and unskilful management or those unac
quainted with pharmaceutical preparations. It Is
therefore of the highest consideration and import
ance to tbe publio and to tho faculty that there
should be standard preparations of uniform strength
and possessing the most advantages. To effect this
and obviate the evil alluded to, I nave made a num
ber or experiments to ascertain th* most effectual
mod* of extracting the virtue* of tbe Sarsaparilla
and the Buchu, and to discover the most eligible
form for their exhibition. The experiments navi
resulted most favorably, and It Is with much pleas
ure I now offer to the public and the faculty my
Compound Fluid Extracts, which contain all th* vir
tues of the articles they are represented to be made
from in a highly concentrated form, and are the most
active preparations which can be made. Two ta-
blespoonsrul of the Extract Sarsaparilla, added
pint of water. Is equal to the Lisbon diet drink,
up Sarsaparilla or decoction as usually made*
