Nett* York Uatlflcntlou Meeting.
A Democratic R vtltlca tloti Meeting wm held
in the Perk, at N«w York, on Wedneedny.
Spccchea wore made by the Hon. S. A. Douglas,
tho Hon. Howell Cobb, and by our fellow citl-
ton, the Hon. John E. Ward. It U eald to have
been an Immense gathering, and to have gone
off with tho greatest eutkusiasm. Oue signifi
cant fact Is, that Greeley, of the 3Wbun« f com*
plains very much of tho noise made by the can-
aou which were Ured, lending us to suppose
that tho harmony which prevailed was very die*
tresslng to him.
Kansas News—Tho Intolligenco Rom Kan*
sas, although very Imperfect, discloses oue fact
beyoudthe shadow of a doubt—that civil war
of the most bloody kitul exists lu Kansas; and
what is tuacu more intousely to be felt by us,
that‘'twenty-one” Georgians and Carolinians
have been killed. IVe know not how this could
have beeu effected, except that they must have
beeu taken ut a disadvantage by overpowering
numbers. The fact Is so.
Mr. Fllimore’a Acceptance.
Hon. A. H. H. Stuart, of Staunton, Va., com*
municotesto the Hichraoud Whig, the official
auuouucemeut to Mr. Fillmore of his nomtua*
tlou, aud his letter of acceptance. The follow*
lag is the letter:
Paris, ATuy 21, iS5u.
Gentlemen—I huve the honor to acknowledge
the receipt of your letter, informing me that
the National Convention of the American part?
which hud just closed its session at Philadel
phia, has unanimously presented my name for
the Presidency of the United States, and asso
ciated wirii it that of Andrew Jackson Donelson
for the Vice Presidency. This unexpected com
munication met me at Venice on my return from
Italy, uud tho duplicate mailed thirteen days
later, was received c»u my urrlval in this city
last eveuing. This must account for my appar
ent neglect in giving a more prompt reply.
You will pardou urn for saying that when my
administration closed in 1853, 1 considered my
political life as a public man at au end, and
thenceforth I was only anxious to discharge my
duty as it private citizen. Hence I have takeu
no active pint in politics, lint l have by no
menus lieon an indifferent spectator of passing
«svents, nor have I hesitated to express my opin
ion on all political subjects when asked, nor to
give my vote and private influence for those
men aud measures 1 thought best calculated to
promote the prosperity and glory of our com
mon country. Beyond this 1 deemed it im
proper for me to interfere. But this unsolicited
tud unexpected nomination lias imposed upon
me a new duty, front which I cannot shrink;
and therefore, approving, as 1 do, of the gen
eral objects of the party which tins honored mo
with its cnnUdetice, 1 cheerfully accept its
nomination without waiting to inquire of its
prospect of success or defeat. U is sufficient for
mo to kmnv that by so doing I yield to the
wishes of a large portion of my fellow citizens
in every part of the Union, who, like myself,
arc sincerely anxious to see the administration
of our government restored to that original
simplicity and purity which marked the first
years of its existence: uud, if possible, to quiet
that alarming sectional agitation which, while
it delights the monarchists of Europe, causes
every true friend of our own country to mourn-
Having had the experience of past service in
the administration/)!' the Government, l may bo
permitted to refer to that as an exponent of the
future, and to say should the choice of the Con
vention he sanctioned by tho people, I shall,
with the same scrupulous regard for the rights
of evary section of the Uuion which then in
rttieneed ray conduct, endeavor to perform every
duty confided by the Constitution und laws to
the Executive.
As the proceedings of this Convention have
marked a new era lu the history or the couutry,
by bringing a new political organization into
tho approaching Presidential canvass, I take
the occasion to ro-alHrm my full confidence ia
the patriotic purposes of ^tlmt organization,
which I regard ns springing out of a public
necessity, forced upon the country, to a large
exteut by unfortunate sectional divisions, and
dangerous tendency of those divisions towards
disunion. It alone in my opinion, of nil the
political agencies non’ existing, is possessed ot
the power to silence this violent ana disastrous
agitation, and to restore harmony by its own
own example of moderation and forbearance.
It has a claim, therefore,in my judgment, upon
every earnest friend «»f the integrity of the
Union.
So estimating this party, both in Us present
position and future destiny, I freely adopt its
great leading principles us announced In the re
cent declaration of the National Council at
Phi adelpbia, (a copy of which you were so
kind mb to enclose me.) holding them to bje just
and lib ral to every true interest couutry,
and wisely adup ed to the ratal......went uud
support of hii enlightened, safe and effective
American policy, in foil accord with the 'dens
and tho hopes of tho fathers or our Republio.
I expect shortly to sail for America, and, with
the blessings of Divine Providence, hope soon to
_ ... - . . and fair prospects
far peace prevail*.

He wa< shot on the 14th lilt., by a rnau nam

muskets, marched by three streets from the
committee rooms to the jail, which they took
possession of.
They took Casey out, together with Corn, the
gambler, who killed Marshal Richardson, and
carried them to the committee rooms, where
they were confined, strongly guarded, when
the steamer left.
The city was draped in mourning for the dentil
