it of u new coin, readily distinguishable from

iation uud toleration. 3. Moderate progresltas
not to bo excluded from public functions. 4.
Tlio constitution to be published. 5. Tho Con
stituent Cortes to bo dissolved, and ordinary
Cortes convoked. 0. Tho Natiouul Guard to
be reorganized on a reduced si ulo. Political
prosecutions brought before tho Cortes aguinst
previous governments, and certain pciuens
connected with it, to be put a stop to. 8. En
deavors to obtain u modification of somo arti
cles of the constitution, and certain administra
tive principles. Lastly,the sume administrative
system as before to be followed.
We hap received Irom Madrid an account of
the sitting of the members of tlio Cortes on the
14th. The number present was 93, General In
fante in tlie chair. Tlie following proposition
wus presented by M. Puscuul Muduz, bearing tho
signature of that deputy and six others:
“ Wc propose to tlio Cortes to declare that tho
new Cabinet has not their confidence.”
The only member who spoko ngainst it was,
as already stated, tho Marquis do Tubueruigu,
who declared it to lie altogether unconstitu
tional, as presuming tuiutereiere with tho pre
rogative of the Queen to appoint her Minister.
Marshal E*purtero having resigned, Her Mu-
jesty surely had, ho said, a right to appoint
Marshal O’Donuel in liis place. Tho solution of
tlio present crisis must, ho observed, revert in
the end to tho Cortes. I f it wa< founded on er
ror, it would ho dissipated; if a plot, theuuthois
of it would ho punished. Tlio proposition was,
however, adonied by 81 to 1, several deputies
having abstained from voting. A committee
was then named to convey to the Queen iho
opinion of Iho Cortes, and Uio following address
to the Queen was agreed to
"Madam,—tlio Constituent Cortes have de
cided iu this day’s sitting, after having seen in
the supplement to tho Gazette what tho first
acts of the ucw Ministry were, that that Cabl.
net lias not tho confidence of tho Chamber, and
they inform your Majesty or that fact, being
well persuaded that your Majesty, in your anx
iety lor tho peace ana prosperity of this nntlun
ill use your royal prerogative to conjure u-
way tho great evils w.ileli tho Constituent
Cortes apprehend lor the liberty of tho people
and for tho throne, which your Miijostv fills so
nobly.”
Tlie Coinraitteo then left at 7 o'clock, the
proceedings liuvlng lasted from 5 In the after
noon. Tho committee was not received at tlio
pulace, Marshal O’Donuel having replied to a
note from General Jnfunto by a declaration that
whut tho Cortes was doing was altogether
illegal.
