Newport, June 6. The brig Royal Charlotte,
Capt. Taylor, arrived here last Thursday from Annamaboa
on the coast of Africa, after a paflage of 110 days; by whom
we have the affeaihg intelligence of the tragical death of
Capt. George Prod, and Mr. William Grant, his mate,
both of this town, which was perpetrated by the Haves on
.board his Hoop, as Hie lay at anchor in the rives Gaboone,
in the month of November lairi Capt. Frost having occasion
either for fome wood or water, sent two men and a negro
on more for that purpose, himfelf, the mate, and a negro
who belonged to tne veflel, remaining on board; and in the
mens abience he unfortunately permitted the Haves, to the
liumber of abont 60, to come upon deck, who immediately
feiaed him, with the negro man, and threw them both over
board. Mr. Grant, at this time, lay sick in the cabin, un
abie to nfc. Copt. Froff swam up to the veflel, in order to
eet on board again; upon which the Haves threw a lance at
™ch penetrated his body, where it remained, and
.with which he attempted to gain the shore, but after fwim
mißg about half the way, he funk, and was seen no more.
The negro who was frown over with him had the good for
