His Maiefty in council was this day pleased to order that the parliament, which Rands prorogued toThurfday the 23d inst. Ihould be fur ther prorogued to Tuesday the 6th day of September next. Whitehall, June 18. The King has been pleased to ap point William Henry Earl of Rochford, to go his Majesty's Ambaflador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Ca tholick King. London , June 20. We hear that a foreign potentate has made a demand of upwards of 700,000!. ot our court, which he fays we are in arrear to him. June 21. Saturday- last 5000 ounces of gold, and 100,000 of silver coin, were exported for Dunkirk. June 23. Yesterday the Rev. Mr. Entick, Mr. Arthur Beardmore, his clerk, and Meflrs. Wilson and Fell, were difeharged by the court of King’s Bench, from the recog nizance they-were obliged to enter into in lad Michaelmas term, on account of the several numbers of the Monitor, concerning which no prosecution has been carried on. Paragraph in a letter from the Cape of Good Hope , dated Feb . t. *• Some days past arrived here a French man of war, who brings advice, that the Walpole, Fenner, Eaft-Indiaman, bound to Bengal, was taken off the heights of Zeal van by two French ships. A part of her cargo, particularly broad cloth, is now very cheap, and five more French men of war are daily’expetted.” June 27. The regiments of Webb, Ganfell, and Lafcells, which have been many years in America, are ordered to re turn to Europe. June 28. The poll-mailers general have added a fifth }>acket-boat to the New-York Ration, in order to have a peedier correspondence from London to any part of North- Amerita. Our troops took poffeflion of Portmahon on the 3 lit ult. after being difpoflefled of it about eight years. Orders are given for the 4th regiment of foot, called the King's regiment, now at Guadalupe, to be sent from thence to Dominica, St. Vincent and Tobago, ceded to us by the late treaty of peace. . July 4. We hear that a quadruple alliance is negociated, and will soon be seen in the North, to the surprise ofall Eu- T °*July 8. On Wednesday was determined at Guildhall, before the Right Hon. Lojd Chief Justice Pratt, and aSpe cial jury of eminent merchants, a cause wherein Mr. Wil liam Hutchell, one of the journeymen printers, apprehend ed on account of the North Briton No. XLV. was plaintiff, and the King's meflengers defendants, when, after a hearing of 12 hours, and many learned arguments on both fidea, a Verdidl was given for the plaintiff in 300 1. damages, and full eofts of suit. The council for the pontiff Mr * Serjeant Glynn, Mr. Stow, Mr. Dunning, Mr. Wallace, and Mr. Gardiner; for the defendants, Mr. Attorney and Solicitor General, Mr. Serjeant Whitaker, Mr Ser jeant Naircs, Mr. Serjeant Davy, and Mr. Yates. The a - for the plaintiff was Mr. James Philipps of Cecil ftreet, and for the defendants Philip Carteret Webb, bfq; of the treasury, and Mr. Secondary Barnes. After the trial was over a bill of exceptions was brought by the Attorney and Solicitor General. And yesterday morning came on the cau.e of James Lint - fey, another of the printers seized by the said meflengers, THURSDAY, October ao, 1763. when the Lord Chief Justice enquiring of the council on ei ther fide, whether they had any particular witnesses to call more than they had yesterday, and being answered in the negative, he gave his opinion, that, to prevent any further trouble, the nrft trial mould decide the fate of the others, and it being agreed to by the council on both sides, it ac cordingly began, and after fome time the jury brought in a verdift with aool. damages and costs of suit. Fourteen actions were brought, the firit recovered 3001. and the others 2001. each; so that the damages amount to 29001. bcfidcs costs of suit. It appeared on these trials that the North Briton, No. 45, was not printed by the master with whom these journeymen worked, and that they had no concern in the printing It. Yesterday 500 ounces of gold, and 29,000 of silver coin, were entered for exportation to Flanders. July 9. A gentleman in the city having laid a wager of 5001. that Dunkirk harbour and fortifications would not be destroyed, determined to go over himfelf and examine. He is now returned, and acknowledges his wager loft. The whole fortifications and bafon, he fays, are completely de stroyed, so as that they could not be reinft&tcd in 20 years at least, if it were intended; and that what now is destroyed since the peace cost upwards of five millions ftcrling at diffe rent times to complete it. July 11. Yesterday morning about one o'clock, a moft dreadful fire broke out at a small beer brewhoufc at Shad wcll-wall, which burnt so violently, that the flames soon reached fome adjacent houses, and in about four hours (there being a scarcity of water) consumed upwards of 100 dwel- Kng-hotrio, great and small, besides out-houses and ware houses, ifrlevcralof which there were pitch, tar, and other combustibles, which made the flames so violent that there was no flopping their progress; a fine new ftiip which was just unmoored, and was to have failed out of the dock the fame day, was also intirelv consumed. July 13. Notwithstanding the assertion in yesterday's papers, (copied from Lloyd’s Evening Poll) that the infor mation in the King's Bench, against Mr. Wilkes, is with drawn, we can allure the pubfick, that the prosecution of this affair will be carried on with the perfcverance becoming the dignity of the government. July 14. As Mr. Wilkes has countermanded the notice of trial, his suit against Mr. Webb and Mr. Wood cannot come on till Michaelmas term. If we may credit fome advices from France, they are do ing all in their power to establish their colonies in America upon a firm foundation, and expe£l 60 or 70,000 inhabitants from Canada to fettle at New-Orleans, and on the weft fide (which is the moft fruitful) of the Miflifippi. July ic. On Wednesday Col. Cillaud killed his Maje sty’s hand, on being appointed Brigadier-General in the Eaft-Indics.
