We are informed that a city re&or/who lately preached before a Jive, ry company, took occasion, in giving the character of a real patriot, to lament in a pathetick manner the supposed defe&ion of a late celebrated Commoner from those glorious, patriotick principles, which had gained him such just and universal refpedt from every wellwifhcr to the laws and conftiturions of this'free, independent kingdom. Till 30th Henry VIII. this office was commonly executed by the Clergy, but unce that time has been conferred only on temporal Lords.
