rrAIE following communication appeared in
JL the last Georgia Telegraph, and must be re
plete with interest to all similarly afflicted. Mr.
Smith is a printer by profession, and is employ
ed in that office—he relates his experience, which
after all is the best criterion by which to judge
of the value of remedies. Advertisements and
high sounding statements may be set forth, and
thus give an ephemeral character and existence
to remedies, which when judged by this test,
lose all their value, and become defunct ; not so,
however, w ith those which have thusbeen test
ed, and have passed through the ordeal; for ot
them, we state t chat has occurred, and front that
deduce what may be expected. Butto the com
munication, it will speak for itself.

Df.arSik: —While so many certificates of
individuals living off' at great distances arc ap
pealing in the papers commendatory of Bal
dams, Byrups, Pills and Powders, 1 think it but
right that medical research and superior success
of some of our practitioners at home should be
made known to our community, that those of
our neighborhood who are afflicted may not one
|y save their health but tlieir money also, and at
the same time encourage tbe efforts of those who
would give character and consequence to this
section of the Union. 1 have been led to these
remarks by the teachings of my own experi
ence :
About seven years ago I was attacked with a
disease of the liver and lungs, accompanied with
haemorrhage or spitting of blood, with severe
and most harrassmg and distressing cough, cold
sweats of nights, w ith a wasting diarrhaer, and
a great part of the time confined to my bed, und
so debilitated generally, that l could do hut lit
tle in the way of business 1 thus continued
for over five years, making every effort during
that time to regain my health. 1 first applied to
thephyscians ofSavannali, where I then resided,
but tlieir efforts failed to relieve me. I then
tried Houck’s Panacea for a long time—then
Wistar's Balsam of Wild Cherry, Sec., till 1 had
spent hundreds of dollars in their purchase, and
still found myself as bad off as before 1 then
applied to your townsman, Dr. M. 8. Thomson,
who I am happy to say, after treating my case
some 6 or 7 months, restored me to sound, and
I believe to permanent health, for I am now and
have been for the last 18 months in tlje enjoy
ment of uninterrupted health. This is my ex
perience, and I doubt not you will agree with
me in the opinion, that I have good reasons for
recommending the Doctor and his remedies in
cases of this kind, far above the most eminent
physicians whose skill I had tested, and the far
famed and much boasted balsams and panaceas
with which I had been dosed. Let others do
likewise, if they would he cured, and that they
may not perish for lack of knowledge, I here
by'request that you will give publicity to tr.y
statement in your widely circulating sheet, and
much oblige yours, respectfully,
JOHN H. SMITH.
The following letters are given, not so much
on account of tbe facts they contain, though they
are important, as to give an idea or specimen of
many of the same kind that are borne to the
subscriber by almost every Mail from the North,
South, East and West. They were nut intended
for publication, and are therefore the more to be
relied on, and appreciated.

1 am much gratified in being able to announce

in America, and will on the first of April, 1850,

It is a beautiful steel engraving, it represents two

on a tablet and scroll work, on which are the

in illuminated letters. Oil the opposite side of
the tablet is the sac simile signature of R. G.

The virtues of the Soap are also improved, the

J'his tune has come, the means are supplied ; this
GRAND AND UNEQUALLED PREPARATION
is manufactured on the largest scale, and is called hi
throughout the length and breadth of the land, especiall
as it is found incafmhte of degeneration or deterioration.
Unlike young P Townsend’s, it improves with age. an
never changes, but for the better : because it is prepared o\
scirnttjie principles by a scientific man. The highest knowL
edge of Chemistry, and the latest discoveries of the art
have all been brought into requisition in the manufaettu
of the Old Dr's Sarsaparilla. The Sarsaparilla root, it j
well known to medical men, contains many medicinal pro
[icrties, and some pro|>erties which are inert or useless, And
others, which if retained in prefiaring it for use, produce
fermentation ami acid, which is injurious to the system.
Some of the properties of Sarsaparilla are so volatile, that
they entirely evaporate and are lost in .he preparation, if
they are*not preserved by a scientific process, known only
to those experienced in its manufacture. Moreover, these
volatile principles, which tly off in vapor, or as an exhali*
lion, under heat, are the very essential medical prvperua
if the root, which give to it all its value.
Any person can boil or stew the root till they get a d&rt
colored liquid, which is more from the coloring matter ti
the root than from any thing else; they can then strati
ibis insipid or vapid liquid, sweeten with sour molasses,
md then cnll it “ SARSAPARILLA EXTRACT or SY
RUP.” But such is not the article known as the
GENUINE OLD DR. JACOB TOWNSEND’S
SARSAPARILLA.
This is so prepared, that all the inert properties of thi
Sarsaparilla root are first removed, everything capable <4
becoming acid or of fermentation, is extracted and rejected!
then every particle of medical virtue is secured in a pug
and concentrated form ; and thus it is rendered incapable a
losing any ofits valuable and healing properties. Prej*rw
in this way, it is made the nmst |M>\verful agent in the
Cure of iiinuineiiilile diseases.
