More than five hundred houses were
open for reception, and the parlors were
tastefully. and exquisitely decorated with
festoons and wreaths of lanrdt, myrtle aDd
cedar, and tables fairly radiant with de
licious delicacies and sparkling bevera
ges. The colls were far more numerous,
and the preparations rouse extensive,mid
the reception more elegant, than lost
year, A number of houses entertained
with smiles and refreshments over two
hundred guests. Verily, these ore aus

Fatal Accident in Taliaferro Coun
ty.—Henry Edwards, (colored) of TaJia-
), was out, with several others, hunt
ing, on the 27th of Docember. He had
a double-barrelled shot-gun, one barrel
of which he had discharged at a squirrel,
and, while loading it again, the other
barrel went off, discharging its contents
iu his hreast and killing hia Instantly.
It.is •uppgeed the hammer of the lock
was half sprung. Harry was an orderly,
upright man, and liis family have'sus
tained a very great loss in his death.

Katie Putnam Troupe.—The talented
young Comedienne, Mias Katie Putnam,^
with her select troupe of artistes, appeared

evening Old Curiosity Shop, Dickens*
tost pathetic story dramatized, was pre
sented with wonderful effect. Miss Katie
Putnam sustained the characters, Little
Nell and tho Marchioness, with charming
accuracy. Her excellent rendition of
tbesp characters, and her sudden transi
tions from the pure, devoted, spotless
Littlo Nell to the pert, silly, spoilt Mar
chioness, entitle her to rank us one of
the most versatile artists ou tho stage.
Edwin Brown, as Dick Swiveller, was
^eeriest. He ia inimitable. To-night
