Hie New fork World of the 23d in- >t«nt, i* out in » lauding editorial advo eating the nomination by the Cincinnati Contention, of the gentleman wlioae name heeda this article. The World (peaka of him ae the ablest “Statesman of the oonntry,” and ven tures to assert that the Democratic Party will “spontaneously adopt the nomina- tion.if bo mode;" and not only this, bat intimates that it will be, or ought to be nt le** a matter of pride with them so to do. We also tee it telegraphed that Ur. Belmont, the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of the United States, is in Cincinnati, work ing for the accomplishment of the same end. Was the betrayal of high trust ever more glaring or more infamous? "Quoutque tandem abulere patientia nos tra?” may well be exclaimed by the De mocracy towards either of this “par 1 ty-nobile “fratrnm.” dust when the prospect was almost certain of a signal triumph of the Demo cratic Party upon the true Jeffersonian principles of the Constitution; just when the Badical Centralizing and Im penaliz ing Dynasty was booomlng odious to a large number of its own constituency; just when thousands, and hundreds of thousands of them, were ready to join the upwards of three millions of true Demo- crals, in a rescue of our free institutions from the hands of the usurpers, those Arch Conspirators now stand forth be fore the country os the no longer dis guised co-operators with the enemy in the only echeme by which the cause they have outwardly professed to support could possibly be defeated 1 This, we have thought for some time, as our readers know, was theobjeot of these and other “trusted lenders" of the Democratic Party, in the Mow Departure movement. Their chief aim all along, as we believe, was not the succest of De mocratic principles, but their defeat— We have thought so ever sinoe the World, in 1868, virtually abandoned the support of Seymour and Blair, when the indies tians ware strongly in favor of the success of the Ticket; and especially have we thought so since the World, last year, refused to answer our question, whether it would support a Democratic nominee, ou a square ont Jeffersonian Platform in the ooming Presidential election, if suoh a one should be eo presented. Thiaques- tion was then considered by this pro fessed Metropolitan organ of the De mocracy as “a trifie ini|R>rtinent.” It was also th’n, that we b.vume fully satisfied vs to what w w the controlling motive, in its open defect).hi lu 1868. It w.is then, that we became perieotly satis fied that, iu the Democratic fold, this “professed orgm." was nothing but a “ico(f iu sheep's clothing." Tne covering is nor throwu off, and this wiley Kadionl, with his mask down, is out openly—not for a Democratic President, or any one iu sympathy with a single artiole in the Democratic creed, but for one who, during his whole life, has been “trained' in the “ideas'* and “policies" of the “straightest seot” of Centralists and Imperialists. Whether the Democracy will “spon taneously'' sot as the TForM Ventures to assert, in ease the Cincinnati Convention shall do as it advisos, time—a few day-s will disclose. We oannot, however, forbear the ex pression of our opinion in the meantime, that they will do no such thing, either "spontaneoualy" or by “compulsion.” This is our own “spontaneous” judgment, and it is strengthened by what we see in another telegraph from Washington, announcing, on the authority of Hon. Fernando Wood, of Mew Fork, Chair man of the Democratic Organization in the Houso of Representatives of Con gress, that if the Cincinnati Convention, shall do as advised by Mr. Belmont, their action will be repudiated by the Democracy of the Union. So mote it be, is all we have to say to-day. AH. a Tha Ssatla.ra Praikjrtartaa Rcvlaw. The April number of this able Quar terly has justoome to hand. It is printed in Columbia, a 0., at "The Presbyterian Publishing House,” iu that oity, con ducted by an association of Ministers. The well known character of the sev eral contributors to this number will at ouoe attract the attention of our readers, for we give below the oontents, with the authors of each Article. Judge Cocke, of Florida; Bev. E. O. Frierson, of Alabama, and Dr. B. M. JiprU Term,, 1872. •glut mo mm cm. mvrxmsom ememr We, the Grand Jury, chosen and sworn for the April term of the Superior Court of Oglethorpe county, beg leave to make the following several presentments.: Through appropriate committees, we have exam ined the Jail, and find It well kept by Mr. William Edwards; but altogether unsafe to keep prisoners in, and the windows of tho upper story, and the steps, need Immediate repairs. We bsv* also, through committees, examined ths books of the Ordinary, and the books of the Clerk of the Superior Court, and ths books of the Treasurer, and And them neatly and properly kept, which re flect much honor on each of tho said officers, viz: F. J. Robinson, Ordinary; George H. Lester, Clerk; fi. A. Gresham, Tiassurer. In tbs Treasurer's Report we find that he has re ceived Nine Thousand Three Hnndrsd and Sixty- Seven Dollars and Fifty-Mine Cents; and paid out Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty-Eight Dollars and Thirty-Four Cents; leaving a balance In the Treasury of Six Hundred end Ninety Dollars end Twenty-Five Cents. Appointed for Common School Commissioners— O H Lumpkin, Pope Barrow, and D H Witcher, for two years; and T D Hutcheson and W U Foster for four years. We recommend that the road leading from Wood stock, In Oglethorpe oouuty, to Woodvllle, in Green county, crossing Little River at Watt's Bridge, re main where it is; and ths Road between Mrs Glorl- ana W Johnson's and Thomas P Csllowsy’s, b* considered in Bowling Grssn District; and we fur ther recommend that no nsw bridges be built or nsw roads opened for the present, unless some un seen emergency should arise. The road leading from tho cross at Thomas P Calloway’s to the Wash ington road, we find has heretofore been neglected, recommend the Commissioners of that Dis trict to put hsnda on aald road and have It worked. The roads generally are in good condlUon, consid ering the many rains during the winter; stLT there many portions of tho roads in bad order and needing immediate attention, and we recommend and anjoln upon the proper authorities to enforce tho road laws, which are fully adequate, if enforced, and have all such bad places put In order, and es pecially charge that the Overseers put up signboards at ths proper places on all the roads in tho county. We recommend that the prcueut system In regard to paupers be continued. We disapprove the late law of the Legislature to establish a County Court, to for as relates to Ogle thorpe county; bulftve recommend, at tho assem bling of the next Legislature, that they give to us a County Court similar to tho former Inferior Court, with five Commissioners, and that they also Increase the fees of Justices of tho Peace, Constables and Sheriffs, and also to reduce the bonds of Constables and wo recommend that G F Platt, B H Darn* tt, A Witcher, JohnT Hurt, and M W Johnson be recom mended to ths Governor , to be appointed aa Com- mteslonors in aald Court We rocommend the Ordinary to levy such per cent on tho 8tate Tax as will ralae about six thoua- and dollars, which wo think will be quite sufficient for tho expenses of the present yoar. Tbs attention of Justices of tho Peace is especially called to the late law In regard to kteplug prope books, and to present the Bame lo tho Grand Jury at tho regular terms of the Superior Court. Wo very sincerely regret end disapprove the very extensive habit our citizens—young snd old—have of carrying deadly weapons about their persons, which la unlawful and daugeroua, and hopo that every good citizen in some way will uae his lnfluonco to put a atop to so great an evil. We recommend that tho Bailiffs, Wm P Edwards, receive fifty dollars for extra service*; and that JD McCarty, Bailiff, receive Iwonty-flvo dollars for extra services. In taking leave of his Honor, Judge Andrews, we embrace thla opportunity to express our thank* for his kindnoss and courtesy to our body. We also tender to Samuel Lumpkin, Solicitor, thanks for the aalthful discharge of his duty. We rocommend that the foregoing preseutmeuta be published iu Tax Atlanta Sun. GEORGE F. PLATT. Foreman.
