Saturday Morning, May 11, 1872. E. Neuiict, Esq., of Social Circle, our General Traveling Agent. He moat widely and favorably known all over Georgia aa a correct and reliable buftihet* man. Hie genial flow of spirits make him welcome among all classes o f people. t f Georgia Press Assoclvtion—Friday By nine o'clock aeventeen carriages from the livery stables, and many private ones, and an omnibus, were in line for "the famous Ponce de Leon Spring.” Before they started, an absnrd individual asked a bit of information from a group of newspapermen : said, he ‘‘Who’sdead?' The outrageous idea tbut a pleasure party of * live' editors going to the Fountain of Perpetual Youth was a funeral, brought up iu the rear bv an omnibus—with Harris, Grady and Gorman as chief mourners. At the Spring, fun was rife, and legiti mate “outsides” wore put to rich and bouutiful refreshments furnished by that “Prince of Hosts,” Mr. Crittenden, of the Kimball House, and served in the ex perienced style of the Lessee of the spring, Mr. C. P. Maguire. Col. Yancey welcomed the Association and told how Juan Ponce de Leon was not happy because he failed to find the fabled Bimini. Oh, if he had lived iu this progressive age and could have met, while in Florida, with Gorman, and giv en him an advertisement, Atlanta would have sent a special train for him. The welcome was responded to by President Estill and Vice-President Styles. The company refused to return until Major Hotchkiss, of Old Virginia, was heard from, who spoke of his now getting sixty-one editors of the South to take an excursion “on to Richmond” and to “invade the soil o! the North with goosequills reversed. On return to tho city, the Association and prominent citizens were taken on the West End street cars by Col. Adair to his residence, where they enjoyed the flavor of strawberries and that “garden ysrb,” mint and its “fixings.” After whioh they proceeded to Col. Wil son's, and got more of the same sort. Col. Adair stated, in response to the toast to his health and prosperity, that he owed about all he possessed to ad vertising. “Nothing,” said he, “costs so little and pays so well as a liberal use of printers’ ink." At the noon session, these additional papers reported: Brunswick Appeal.T. F. Smith; Central City, (proxy), J. P. Sawtell; Lumpkin Telegraph, J. It. Christian; Perry Home Journal, (proxy), 0. W. Styles; Warrenton Clipper, (proxy), J. Henly Smith. Mr. Jas. A. Wright, of the Abbeville, (S. C.), Medium, but formerly of Geor gia, was tendered the privileges of the Convention from the first day. At the afternoon session a spirited dis cussion ensued on “Auxiliary" papers. "Pateut outsides” were caved in.— After various modifications, the follow ing report of the Committee on this sub* ject was adopted: The last resolution gave rise to a vig orous and even eloquent debate, whioh settled the "excited elements on patent outsides as a thunderstorm clears the at mosphere of noxious vapors. Col. Yan cey powerfully supported the resolution. Tho other chief speakers were Col. Ave ry, A. St. Clair Abrams, Col. Snead and J. Henly Smith. Exalted, direct and exhaustive discus sion of vital and difficult subjects would soon make meetings of the Press Associa tion a very necessity, and proud and happy occasions. The day was closed by a Grand Ball and Banquet at the Kimball House, furnished by our citizens; and this (Friday) morning, by the invitation of ex-Governor Brown, the Association took a pleasure excursion up the West ern & Atlantic Railroad as far as Chatta nooga, and a large part left with the in tention o' goiug on to Nashville. The Association adjourned to meet iu Americus in November, at tho call of the President and Executive Committee. We will leave to our brethren through out the State to speak os the spirit moves them of their entertainment by the peo ple of Atlanta. State Bonds, authorised by an Act approved January 18,1872, and Issued for the purpose of Exchange or Redemption of Old State Bonds of Georgia, maturing this year, are now ready for disposal according to the provisions of the bill. Quite a number have > lready been sold to Geor gians at 80 ceute, and au opportunity, for a taw weeks la offered to obtain them at the Stata Treasury Office at the above price; or they will be exchanged for the old bonds tailing due, rating th* old bonds at par and the new bonds at 90 cents the State paying a differ ence of Teu per cent In cash. These new bonds are desirable on several accounts 1. They are issued in strict accordano* with law. 2- No more are leaned than barely enough to lake up the old bonds maturing. 8. They are Redemption Bonds, which are rated on the Stock Market as the very beat class of securl- 4. The Coupon Interest will be paid promptly aemi-auuually, either iu New York or at the State Treasury. fi. They are exempt from State Taxation. Orders for purchase, or bonds for exoliaage, be sent to the Stats Treasurer in Atlanta, aud will receive prompt attention. There are strong reasons for these new bonds be ing at per in s abort Urns, and it is hoped Georgians will continue to show their appreciation, aa has the highest Judicial officer of the State, by purchasing Twenty-five Thousand Dollars for himself. Editors of the Sun—Bear Sirs: I pre sume that a few lines from an old friend, giving some of the general news of this place and surrounding country, where there are many readers of your excellent paper, will not he unacceptable to you and a goodly number of your patrons elsewhere. There is general complaint among the farmers about tho backwardness of crops, especially of cotton, as the drought is preventing it from coming up, The feeling of discouragement is not confined to the farmers alone. Our busi ness men generally, and merchants espe cially, have apprehensions for the future, on account of it. Nevertheless, Newnan is not, I appre hend, oehiud other cities of the size, in all that is truly progressive, and the good people here are not indifferent to enter prises for the general good. There has been a number of picnics among the Sabbath schools, in which the ladies of Newnan know so well how to excel; and speaking of their efforts in this direction, reminds mo that there is now an organized amateur club or soci ety, chiefly composed of the ladies—the object of which is to give festivals and musical entertainments for the pleasure of citizens and visitors, ns well as to as sist in raising funds to build a new Meth odist eburph in thig plucp. The first of these entertainments Is to be a strawberry festival at Thomas Hall on Tuesday night, May 14tb, and if any, or many, of the young men of vour city, would take a little excursion down here on that occasion, I am bound to believe they would not only appreciate the festi val, bnt would thank me for letting them know where so much beauty and refine ment may be found at onpe aaspmoletl. Speaking of refinement—too much cannot be said in praise of the schools of Newnan. It would pot be extravagant to say that Mr. Kellogg atnuds if uot at the head of the list, at least among the first educators in all this oouutry; uud his ef forts have been appreoiu cd. Newnan is hopeful as to tho future — reference to her railroad, manufactur ing projects, etc.—aud that her mineral resources here and near at hand, are by no means to bo lightly esteemed. There is a mineral spriug here which would at tract hundreds of summer visitors aud invalids, if our people would make room for them, 41 rcA( fy Col.
