The railroads, county rotda, streams of all dimensions, militia districts, land lots, planta tions, their owner's namoe, mills, bridges, ferries, mines of gold, coppor, Ac., are all prominently and conveniently arranged. It is probably the moat de sirable Map of the County svor put before the public. Having been sent over by the At'an tic Cable, ha doubtless was frightening the natives of that island with his "|i and ooeta." white our own Court was languishing with neglect. Though wa are not authorised to say. it is but reasonable to suppose that His Honor, during bis absence, will not neglect so favorable opportunity to team some of the sleight-of-hand tricks for which the "Jape" are s» famous. We shall therefore expect on his return a new teat of necromancy, legerde main, metaphysics, gymnast!*.*, imnetology, or some other side-show in connection with his won derful exhibition in the future. He advertised that being a graduate of tbs Greeley school, ha was prepared to instruct at short notice, all persona in the art of black-guarding, swearing, and all kinds of profanity. He waa also quite an adept in vulgarity and obscenity, having practiced both for about forty-three years He came to court In hopes of bribing it, bat His Honor, like Osar's wife, was above suspicteon. Mr Dalleutine, however, did not despair. A cautions look around be stole; 11 te bag. of chink he chunk; And mat y a wicked smite he smote. And many a wink he wunk. Owning vast establishment, consisting of all the convenien ces, appointments and luxuries proper to a lady of her station and refinement, she was necessarily much exhausted after superintending the day's pack- She therefore concluded to take a little coffee, stimulant; but being short-sighted, sha mistook the coffee pot for a big, black bottle. The cones- nonce was, that when the wheel-barrow man who ioved her vast establishment came lobe remunera ted for bis days' labor, she forgot abe had aver Mov ed, and refused to pay him anything, whereupon, Hia Ilonor Jogged her memory with a demand for M 00. Mr. Tuller was charged f 10 for having such a treacherous memory. BEN. VAENELL came up to court crying like a two-mlnote-old baby. His Ilonor a*ked him the cause of so much lamen tation, whereupon he responded: " May it please your Ilonor, I'm a poor dilapidated cuss, science-stricken, broken-hearted, and grief laden. For when I think of what I am, m Aud what 1 nsc to waa, I think I throwed myself away Without sufficient cause." His Honor thought so too, and charged him $6 ; whereupon he avowed he was as good as any man, and threw down a hundred dollar bill with as prince ly an air as aver came from a sprig of royalty. M^lor Spencer, In his opening argument i Wednesday for tho State, ably presented these among other points: The Relptor la imprisoned by virtue of three bench warrants issued by a Judge of the Superior Court for the State of Georgia; the said Court hav ing Jurisdiction both as to the "subject matter and the person." The United States District Court should not disturb the legitimate proceeding of the State Court. Where Uiorc are two or more grounds for the imprisonment, one being bad, the Court will discharge as to that but remand as to those that are good. After indictment, the Court will not Inquire into tho eaumt of commitnmnt; but would if committed by a magistrate. icro there are two cause* of imprisonment, ou< good and the other iuvalid, the Court can, upon habeas corpus, discharge as to tho invalid cause, and remand the prlsouor aa to tho other. i case of Roberts, lu 3d Abbott, applies outy to the act of Relator as an^ nicer acting uuder tho ordor of the Court. Tho question ia simply, was the Rela tor authorised by the instruwbut uuder which b< acted, and that questiou is answered by the validity of the instrument itself, which hears on its face evi dence of fraud. A doclaiou of the Supreme Court of the United States is binding on this Court, but when from District Court of any otlioi State, it Is simply adviso ry in its character. In Abbott's Kentucky csss there was no contro versy aa to the legality of the process, but the case at bar makes that the issue. As to Jurisdiction, see Brights Digest 303, which gives jurisdiction when done iu discharge or duty— that is assumed and upon that Jurisdiction is based The fact that the Relator waa in the discharge of duty we deny. The jurisdiction being taken by the Suporior Court should hold the Relator until dis posed of by law. lie cited attention to the facta of the alleged war rant—the entries and the peculiarities of the changes and Interlineations. The United 8talcs Court is authorized by statute to issue writs of habeas corpus; but State laws are to be rules of decisions in trials, etc., except when the Constitution of the United States requires other wise. What are the Stats laws lu this case at bar ? No person aball be discharged upon the hoaring of writ ot habeas corpus in the following oases, to-wit Where he Is imprisoned uuder lawful procoas Issued from a Cout of competent Jurisdiction, unless cases where bail is allowed and proper ball la ten dered. The Phooebsr or TitE Hthxet Railuoad.—Tho Decatur Street Lino of the Street Railroad will be oompleted to the cemetery in about ten days. S> soon aa this line la finished, work will be com menoed forthwith on the Peachtree line, which will extend out Oak aud Ivy streets to tho intersection with North Avonno. It baa been Intimated by some that it is tho pur pose of tho Street Railroad Company to extend this latter line on to Ponce de Leon Spring via North Avenue. Tho Spring ia located within one mile of the btroet Railroad, at ite intersection with Houston atreet; and If adopted, thie lino would become one of tho moat fashlonsbio Btroet Railroad rides the city. Of course this line will hardly be built this season. In the meantime, tho mineral spring on the old Jenkins lot In West End, ia becoming more i>opular every day. The operations showed familiarity with the premises. A Ooumasi. Eateams— —The resent tnrifcfetnt in real estate made ia this city by the ft-there Se cant y Company, probably signifies more than the casual observer would el Aral suppose. It ia andertaood that it la tha purpose of the At- lanm k Richmond Air-line and the Atlanta k Weal Point Railroad corn pantea to connect their rands by • abort supplemental Una. Intersecting the south western portion ofthia city, the termini of Uiia flank line to tap the OsorrU cod West Point roads near tflbclty li—ita 'either within o« without), time form ing a continuous line from West Point to Charlotte, North Carolina. It ia alleged and generally believed that this Hoe the rn Security Company have purchased entire the Atlanta and Richmond Air-Line Railroad, that they have leased the Atlanta and West Point, and that they have a controlling influence in all roads on this route, from Vicksburg to New York, though the— are not positively known to the public. Tho object of the supplsaasntai: route through tha south-eastern limits of this city, ia to afford an i Interrupted line over whleh to ship cotton and through freight directly to tha East. If the comm conjectures are true, the completion of the project will secure a direct, express air-line communication from the great producing area of the Qulf and South western States to the great consuming and menu- facoring cities of the East.. Doubtless it is the purpose of this Company to ultimately extend the line through to Monroe, Lou isiana* and thence to the Pacific; or rather to make this tbs'Esst Mississippi route of tha Great South era Pacific Railway, which has so long Invited tha atten tion of capitalists. It will thus become in direct com petition with various olbor tinea, looking to tha same •ad—that ia, being the extension of tha Great South- Pacific Route from San Dtego to New York, and which other lines some being all rail and some hming steamship lines, from Maw Orleans, Savan nah and Charleston, now carry the through freight to the East Atlanta, it ia contended, and with much plausibili ty, will become the central point on thla graft trunk line; and it is here that the company purpose erecting all their machine shops, car mannfhctortea. rious other establishments necessary to the thorough and constant equipment of the road in all its depart ments. lha central and accessible potation of tha city, together with the bracing, invigorating climass, render Atlanta specially fitted for the— manufac tories; and, if located here, they will secure for tha city an additional population of fonr or five thou sand. The—, together with the Industry fend capi tal they may bring and invito, will give tha city another powerful impetus in her onward march to metropolitan proportions and influence. Ot course tha continuous line for through fright will not interfere with local freight and general travel. Passenger trains will stop ft tha Passenger Depot, of oourse, and local freight wUl daubtleaa be shipped to the local freight depot, aa heretofore. The conjecture that Dr. Thurman's Strawberry Gardens had been purchased aa a sight for the ma chine ahopa ia probably Ill-advised, from tha fact this locality has not sufficient elevation for this purpose—a very necessary requisite In ait— for rail way machine shops. It haa been surmised with much reason and ptauai- bllity that it ia the policy of the oompany to purchase their right of way through tha city before they locate the lino, and after locating the route. —11 all surplus lands, thus securing the most practicable route di rectly through the city, at a comparatively small ex pense. and probably ft a very considerable advant age. Such are the conjectures of the pnbUc. Having seen several notioea in news papers, published at the instanoe, direct ly or indirectly, of Dr. Hitchoock, one of the Proprietors of the Georgia Soap Factory, o! this city, which arc oaloul&t- tod to mislead the Public, and deceive those in our midst who oro enough in terested to investigate the foots, I deem it my duty, in vindication of truth and probity, to ooli the attention of the Pub lic to the following facts:. In 1871, under the management of Dr. Ilitchoock and his soap manufacturer, the soap turned by thorn was so poor that it did not find a market at home or abroad. This fact Dr. Ilitehcoek volun tarily stated to me in languaga plain and unequivocal. I was not at that time engaged in the husinees, and Dr. Hitchcock oame to my house and begged me to render him suob servioe us would got him out of troublo. I consented, and commenced opera tions with him, as a Partner,on the 25th day of April, 1871; and from that date uutil onr separation in February, 1872, I was the solo manufacturer of all the Soap mode by onr firm (Uitchoock 4 Spencer.) I melted aud made over the Soap which Dr. H. hod on hand, which was worth less except aa Soap stock, and made mer chan table Poor Man’s Soap, thus saving to him that which he said he considered valueless. The Soap mode gave universal satis faction, tha trade and consumers show ing their high appreciation of meritori ous goods. It is not my parposoto make warnpon any manufacturer, aa I desire to see man ufacturing interests of every kind made a prominent feature of the industry and enterprise of the entire South; but whilst I desire all this, I wish to see men ad here to the principles underlying all the relations subsisting between man and man in a civilized country, viz.: Truth, Fair Dealing, etc. Dr. Hitchcock well knows that I intro duced the Soap known as the Poor Man's Soap; and ho well knows that an ounoe of it never had been made in the Georgia Soap Factory until I made it; and I will hero say that not an ounoe such as I made haa ever been made in that Fac tory since I left it, and never will be made in it again, as I am the inventor ol the chemical combinations of that, and other popular brands of Soap, and have never imparted the knowledge to him or any one else. I am now at the head of the moat com plete manufacturing establishment in the whole Southern country, and as com plete aa any at the North—only differing in point of magnitude—having oapacity to tum out one hundred and twenty thousand pounds of Soap per month, with all the improved apparatus for mak ing every variety of Soap, from the finest Toilet, through the entire line, to the lowest Laundry Soap, and all this I oon do without “ steeling eny men's thun der." My Soap speaks for itself; end I sey to merchants and consumers : Judge ye between it and any other Soap, whether made North, Wat, or et the Georgia Soap Factory, or anywhere elite, and I abide the decision. I invite the Pnblio to eeli on the firm of Spenoer, Zimmerman 4 Clark, at No. 11 Granite Block, Brood street, or at the Excelsior Steam Soap Works, oornar Fos ter aud Bell streets, near the Medieal College, and examine our gooda for themselree.
