THE DAILY SUN. slagie Copies of tke Far • ale at Ike from our Kvcnlnc trillionof llii> i sih. ATLANTA, GA Winid'SiiAT Moknino, Juki 19. 1872 A report has been circulated that I am a supporter of Grant. Why this is done I do not know. I auppoac it ia through the intolerant apirit of the supporters of Greeley, and because I opposed the very unfair proceedings of Saturday. Permit me, therefore, to state publicly through your oolumns, tkat such a characterization of me is unjust and slanderous, and that if Grant'and Greeley are the only candi dates , I shall remain at home. I can't choose between two such deep dyed Had- ioals. Alex. 8t. Clam Auuaus. Georgia Ag Military Institute. Marikita, Oa., May 28, ’72. To the former Cadets and Professors vf the (Jeorgia Military Institute: Gentlemen: Below please Cud resolu tions of the Trustees of tbe Georgia Ag ricultural, Mechanical and Military Insti tute, and alfo of the City Council of this city. In attempting to comply with tho re quest set forth in the lust resolution of each series, I Am met with the fact, that there is no record or catalogue to furnish mo with the name and residences of the former Professors and Cadets of the Georgia Military Institute. All the re cords of the Institute seem to have shared the fate of the Buildings which formed your first camp of instruction, and from which so many noble sons of the South went forth to illustrate tin virtues and excellencies of their Alma Ma ter. By the desolations of war, you, the mr viving Piofessors and Cadets have been scattered through the different States, and I am reduced to the necessity of ad dressing you through the press. I offer you, gentlemen, in behalf of the Trustees and present Faculty of the In stitute, and the City Council and citizens of Marietta, a heartfelt welcome, and as sure you we look forward to your reun ion as the most pleasing episode in our first commencement I remain, very truly and respectfully yours, D. L. Buttolpil At a lute meeting of the Trustees of the Georgia Agricultural, Mechanical and Military Institute, the following pre amble and resolutions were unanimously adopted: Whereas, many circumstances render the coming Commencemt nt of the Geor gia Agricultural, Mechanical aud Militarj Institute, a most appropriate occasion for the reunion of the former Cadets of the Georgia Military Institute to renew, on consecrated ground, the hallowed asso ciations of a glorious past; to recall the proud history of their Alma Mater and commemorate the achieve 110014 of her gallant sons; to take living comrades by the hand and mourn over those who sleep the soldier’s dreamless sleep, and to leuguo themselves together, as a body, to keep alive those holy memories aud per petuate the friendships of former days; therefore, be it Ilesolred, That we cordially invite the former Professors and Cadets of the Georgia Military Institute to be present ut the Commencement Exercises of the Georgia Agricultural, Mechanical and Military Institute, commencing June 30th aud July 3d, 1872. Peso red, That 11*-v. D. L. Buttolph, Chairman ut the Faculty of the Institute, be requested to communicate this action of the Trustees to the former Cadet-sand Professors of the Georgia Military Insti tute. Wm. Phillips, President Board of Trustees. Jno. G. Campbell, Secretary. AtameetiDg of tho City Council of Marietta, the following preamble and resolutions woro unanimously adopted: Whereas, Tho Trustees of the Georgia Agricultural, Mechanical and Military Institute have invited the former Pro fessors and Cadets of tho Georgia Mili tary Institute, to be present during the commencement exercises in July next; and Whereas, The association of the citi zens with the Cadets was of the most pleasant character, and the citizens en tertain the kindest and friendliest recol lections, (not unmixed with pride on ac count of their now historic record,) of this noble band, educated in our midst; therefore be it Resolved, That the Mayor aud City Council of Marietta, unite with the Trustees in extending the above invita tion to the former Professors and Cadets of tho Georgia Military Institute and tender to them the hospitalities of the city whilst they remain amongst us. Ilesolred, That Rev. D. L. Buttolph, Chairman of the Faculty, of the Insti tute, be requested to communicate this notion of tho Mayor and City Council to the Professors and Cadets abovo men tioned.
