Platform of the Gcergla Democracy-. Mlk Jane, 1871. Eetolved, That llm Democratic pn'.tf of Georgia etaud upmi the prinaiplos of the Democratic port; of the Uniou,bring- iug into special prominence, ae applica ble to the present extraordinary condi tion of the country the unchangeable doctrine that this is a onion of States, and that the indestructibility of the Stutos,of their rights, aud of their eqnali- ty with each other is an indispensable port of onr political system. lietolvetl, That in tho approaching election the Democratiot party invites everybody to oo-operate with them in a zealous determination to change tho present usurping and corrupt administra tion, by placing in power men wrbo are Iruoto the principles of Constitutional Government, and to a faithful and eco nomical administration of public affairs. Sunday In Gainesville. Editor Sun: But few towns in Georgia have exoited more interest, or'attracted more notice, than this one for a year or two past. The healthfnlnoss of the region, tho oheapness of living, and the generous hospitality of the people ren der it a very ploasant place indeed. I spent last Sunday in Gainesville, and it is se'dom I enjoy more pleasure in one day than fell to my lot on this occasion. Moat of the citizen* are a chnrch-going people. I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Wills, of your city, preach in the Presbyterian Church. It is the boost of the people that he said some time ago at a Communion meeting here, that in an experience of eighteen years, he did not remember to have adminietered the Sacrament to a single congregation be fore, of wliioh not a single being left the house nntil the benediction. Tho Methodists and Baptists also had preaching, and I learn that there wer« good congregations in esch of the Churches. There are flourishing Sabjsth school, here in all the churohes, and tbo attend ance was, until recently, very large. For some time past an excursion train from yonr city has oomo np to Lime Spring, passing Gainesville about tbe time con gregations sre meeting for worship. his has caused some disturbance in the community. Hacks, omnibuses, and other vehicles, go dashing along in a lit tle town just as people are assembling for worship, and the whistle of tbe loco motive and noise of the cars oreate some confusion, slid really disturb the good people here. It is in be hoped it will not long continue. Would uol the merchant, tbe michauie, or tbe farmer just os well ply his vocation on tbe Sabbath ? Is it well for the people of • qwio. low. I. Oo ,.ua,.jvJ f Wo du not believe that those who have directed the matter intend to do wrong by it. It is intended os a recreation; but it dis turbs us. We also thiuk it is haring an injurious instead of a beneficial in fluence. There is now a revival of religion going on in tho Methodist Church. Quite u number have joined, while tho anxious crowd the altar. Wanderer. Pams, Juiy C.—Tho Treaty for Oor- msu evacuation has been ratified, with only two dissenting votes. NEW YORK. The ■telcea.TrlMl—Annther Step Toward Acqaitlal-RclBnilBg to Work—Died of » Ilrokcm Heart Hew Yoke, July 6.—In the Stoke, case, John Moore testified that he saw Fisk go into the Grand Central Hotel January Cth. Afterwards the boy Bed- mond came ontsnd said Stoke* w** shot. Witness went in and caught the Colonel nnder the arms No one was present lint them. He was just going to ask, ••Are you hart?’ when Fisk said, “Ho was too quick for me tliis time.” When witness came oat, Flsk'i colored driver asked him wbnt happened, and, telling him, the colored mansuid, "Wonder the old man didn’t pnll on Mm, for he waa fixed,” aud afterwards said, "I oarry two myself for some time.” The cross-examination brought out no contradictions. Work will be renewed on the old basis at tho Singer Maahiae Factory Monday, nearly all the strikers taking their old situations. The father of tho girt Elliott, who was murdered by her mother yesterday, hud been ou a strike for throe weeks, and had dissipated. This is ssid to have driven tho mother crazy. Tho death-roll for the wees ending at noon to-day was 1,600—the largest in the history of the city. It is stated that Vanderbilt has ds- dined tbe Presidency of the Erie, ten dered him by the English stockholders. Abt and Jananschek have gone to Eu rope. The death of Judge MoOuun, which occurred at four o'olock this morning, was the result of great mental depres sion, caused by the notion of the Court of Impeachment, in finding him guilty of mulfeosanoe in office, and removing him from his office, as Judge, by unani mous vote. His relatives, who were with him at his last momenta, state that he died of grief and a broken heart. The English Grenndior Band departed to-day for Europe. Middletown, N. Y., Joly 0.—Chas. London, July 5.—The Dion turret ship Glutton was tested at Portland to day. The flrat shot fired made a bole in her Turret measuring 10 by 17 inches; lifted her uppor plates, shattered bet frame works and started her joints in all directions. The second shot n ado a hole 14 inoheB in diameter, the shot rebouuding and falling on deck. Neither shot interfered with the revolutions of ihp Turett. The resnlt of the trial is considered strongly in favor of the Turret system. ENdl?ANU. Aloittlctir Cutnrnzjr Come Again—lie Bn. ttr* the Fitlit a* a Speculator.
