Water, Tbia ia the ecieatiHo name of the wa ter of a famous aedtciaal spring at Get tysburg, which baa, ior a lew yearn past, attracted mooli attention, and whose wonderful efficiency aa a therapeutic seems to be well attested, in a large clan of common diseases, sc that it baa be come quite celebrated. We learn that large numbers of persons who hare vin- ited this spring prefer it to any European or American water. Its peculiar chemical qualities and the testimony of many eminent 'physicians and cured patients, attest its saluein general and local debility. It has a reputation for developing and restorative effects on infancy and age, and baa effected many radical oures of chronio rheumatism and gout, as well as dyspepsia in all its forms. We commend the perusal of an artiole on this water on our first page to-day. A little history of the discovery of this spring,’with properties of the water,- Ac., can be had of all druggists. Not two years have passed since Gen. Wright wrote these words, and now he is one of Ibe accepted leaders and can didates of a party that pledges itself to “oppose any reopening of the questions settled by those amendments. General Wright, by hit own admisaion, is advo- oating doctrines that are subversive of free Representative Government, and that destroy the oompact between tbe States Do men caro nothing tor consistency, for principle, for honor ? Are tbe rights and Ubartien of tbs people mere shuttle cocks to be bandied about by politicians? Will not tbe people sssert their dignity and manhood by condemning such leaders ? General Wright ia tbe candidate for Congress in the 8th Distriot against Gon. D, M. Blllllon* of Wild Pigeons Settling on « Farm In BInryland—The Birds Piled In Many Places Two F«ct Deop. Cumberland, Md., October 10. A Mr. Schley owns a farm six miles north-west of Oakland. Six acres of the farm are ooverod with alder bushes, or small trees ranging from twelve to fif teen feet in height. Tber grow very densely on the land, and from this fact have beoome generally known an bushes. Some ten days since, nbrut 4 o’clock in the afternoon, a large flock of wild pig- eons settled down upon the alders. Mr. Sehley say they were to be numbered by thousands, and completely covered the tops of the bushes, hiding them from sight Another Uock followed, and lighted on top of the first. Tbe incom ing ol pig ms continued until nightfall, at which time they were piled in many plaoes two feet deep upon each other.— The bushes were many of thsm broken down by the weigbt, aud it is estimated that over s million of birds were on the ground. They rexMted there till morn ing, when flock by flock, they finw away, and by nine o'clock the fields were de serted. In the eveniag they again re turned, and they still make this their reetiug place. Singular as this story may appear, it is vouched for by mtiiy respeotable citi zens of this city, wkcShave vis,ted tho spot and captured hundreds of the birds. After nightfall, it is said, a person may go among the pigeons sna sweep them into n bag. The probable explanation of the immense gathering is in tbe fact that this is the season of their annual visit to tbe forest regions of tbe Allegha ny mountains in quest of ths aeorna which arc abundant there. It is n well established fact that wild pigeons have but one roosting plaoo within a very large territory, and that in their transit to warmer latitudes, and during their stoppage by the way, they useono p'acn only as a roost at night. Other pigeon roosta have been known in the glade districts of Maryland, but this one is considered the largest ever seen by tbrfoldest inhabitant From the Chronlola sod Seotlsal.) It seems that on Wedoe day morning Mr. Ham Martin, and old and respectable oilman, living uear Bel-Air Station, brought a load of cotton to town in a two-horse wsgou—himself driving the team. After -reached to infest the oity, who wished, be said, to get e situation. The terms wore soon agreed upon, the man got in the wegon and Mr. Martin started borne. When about two miles this side of Bel-Air, and in a lonely and deserted portion of tbe road, the negro hlghway- gtan took outone of the ffooden stand ards oi the wegon snd attacked Mr, Mar tin from behind.
