Barvlll'a Hall, on Decatur street. In the abeenoe ot
the chairman. Mr. James X GtUatt waa oalled to
preside. Business of importance was transacted.
Managers for the election were appointed by the
Executive Committee, and a nomination was made
for Water Commissioner to DU the vaoancy In tbe
Fourth Ward. Mr. James M. Toy was nominated
unanimously. Speeches were mads by Mr. D. Brc-
goo, J- E. Qullatt, Judge D. Pittman. Dr. Tbomp-
son. and others.
Mr. Toy. the nominee tor Water Commissioner,
an engineer of twenty years' sxpertauoe in this city,
a sterling Democrat, and has a host of friends,
all Democrats rally to hia support.

Emory College, stating, "that it was a necessity to
Conference for Emory to be rebuilt; the old
building was condemu-d as unsafe, and has bean
demolished. He waa requested to solicit ths means
rebuilding It; he agreed to do so, and <
plans ass, that he warned the indorsement of
ibta Conference by a donation of one tbouaand do
He expected to make tha same request of the
South Georgia Conference. Armed with this in-
doraement he would have no fears In raising a auf-
lent fund to finitn it np. One of tha features of
tbe institution was tbe free tuition of sons of
b*rs of the Conference. Many had reoeived the
benefit of this privilege, and tha future would
still offer then* advantages to others." The roll
was caUed and various amount* given, amounting
to alx hundred and fifty dollars. Aa quite a number,
