First Baptist Church.—The First
Baptlat Church Sunday School will bold a Christ-
Festival in the lecture room of the church next
Thursday evening.
A Christmas tree, with presents for the children,
some pretty new songs by the school, and short ad
dresses by the Pastor, Hou. C. Pe- pies ai d otuers,
will add interest and pleavure to the occasion.
Teachers and icholare are requested to meet
promptly at seven o'clock, r. u., and all tho friends
of the school are Invited.
Rip Van Winkle.—Wo t.avo received
a notice from the agents of McKco Eanki'i that he
will be In this city on tho 8tu and 9tU of January.
McKeoisan actor c-f no mean merit, and his spe
ciality of Rip Van Winkle is m< at favorably
mented upon by the press. In some act* of thia
oelebratod play it is contended that he rises superior
to the great Jefferson. The Hat of ondoriementa

success, coming, as they do, fro u some of tho most
reliable papers in the United Bute*.
Little Ciiildiien.— This morning when
Christmas comes to delight all you fortunate little
folks, who are almost sure to rcceivo something
pretty cn this happy day, won’t you look over your
present stock of toys and select from them what
ever you can spare T Whon you do this, It will be
easy enough to find some very poor girls and boys
whom you can gladden by the gift of your iast-off
playthings. Do mote, if you can, children, but at
least do this. Bo many poor children havo
Cbrlstmast all; for poverty can shut out e
Santa Claus himself.
The Horbr.—As 8ol Smith Bussell
would say, the horse Is a very beautiful vogetable,
and there are different kinds of horses. But as lor
us, give us tbe horse who deliberately walked up in
front of TnB Sun office, and aftor giving one long,
silent and piercing gaze at our book-keeper, fell
down and died. There was no put on about it He
died all over. Whether it was the effects of the epi-
zoot or the woeful Ivcks of the book-keeper, or
wliat—he died and was hauled c ff. (This la our own
individual item, aud Wliidby hd no busiuesa pry
ing around into our afftirs. Let him kill his oan
horses if he'a hard up )
It lias been mysteriously hinted that
an association la being formed for a celebration of
"Twelfth Night.” in Atlanta, similar, Gough on a
much smaller seale than tho "MjaUck Krewe" and
Mardi Gras, in New Orleans. If ths at.empt proves
successful, the revelers propose to parade cn
Twelfth night (6th January,) and will appear at a
given signal, to be made known by proclamation of
hi. Mo.tniih.nd Might, MiJ.itj, tb. King of Ml
the Revelers. Arrangements are being nude for
the various railroads to sell half-fare tickets for the
occasion. ^
The Messrs. Plait.—We still insist
upon our readers paying especial attention to the
supply of furniture on exhibition at the store of
Piatt ft Oo., in James' Bank Block. Every day adds
new style* to their already varied assortment of
goods. Because we call special attention to their
finer sets, it is not Intended to convey the idea that
their stock does not contain everything in the fur
niture line. Tbe man of moderate mean* can go
there and get a vary respectable outfit for a anul
snm, while the more wealthy can supply almost
desire. Their bed-room suits range in prices,
from forty to five hundred dollars, and embraces ali
grades, from tbe highest to the lowest. They
have, also, Joel received a splendid lot
of artificial flowers for parlor adornments'
French vases and numerous pretty little things
which most be rare to be folly prised. They have
a large ware room on Alabama street, and the Noe.
T and 9, James' Bank Block, are principally used
for displaying their better grades of ware. If a
married man has the deilre to have peace and con
tentment ali through the coming year, he can beet
•scoreit by surprising the "old lady" with a hand
some set of furniture aa a Christinas or New Year's
present; for, next to a new bonnet, it l* conceded
that furniture come* nearer effecting the detirtd
end than anything else.
The haoaoaeei man we nodc.d about tLe whole
concern, was Mr. Charlie Platt, anJ if he-* not
married, he ought to be, and if he keep* up his
present appearances will be befoie next Christmas.
