usual hour. Judge Hopkins presiding.
The first case on the docket which came up for
Judicial Investigation was The State vs. John Mew-
decker, charged with Laroeny after trust. The Jury
returned a verdict of not guilty.
In the ease ef the State vs. Taylor Turner, Green
Berry Turner and Oharlea B. FUlott, the Jury ren
dered e verdict ef not guilty, so tar ea Green Berry
Turner was Involved, end an order wee passed re-
leasing the securities on his bool.

J. W. Mabbttt- Trover and Ball-process not having
keen executed, the Sheriff was ordered to do ao at

Died in Ireland.—From a copy of the
BallJna Herald, published in the county of Mayo,
Ireland, we see announced th* death in Beilina,
December 29tb, of Thomas Conway. This gentle
man was the father of Mr. John J. Conway, who
has for several years been a clerk in the store of Mr.
John Byan, ot this city.
Threading the Needlb.—All around
town yesterday wasa very talkative Utile “drummer”
with a needle threading attachment to a sewing
thimble. It was quite s cute little affair, and at

Prize Knives.—Deoidedly tho most
Interesting place In town at present is the suction
of Barney William*. Last night It was
crowded with people investing In good pocket

were drawn, and Barney looked happy.
Out of Fix.—Much complaint is ex
pressed at the number of street lampa which are
not lighted for several nights past. On Marietta
street alone there are seven or eight lamps oat of
fix, and can't b* used. Tho police whose duty it la

plaint to ’hose who have this matter in charge, and

Ponss Dead.—The Macon Telegraph,

Wm. 8. Clack, who was found dead on the cars on
the arrival there of the train from this city Monday

the car dragging this old man; they picked him up

answered he was sink, and that be bad been sent to
Atlanta from Macon, and now they were going to
send him back. One of the three men said he wa«

Council Committee Meetiso. —The
special committee, oonslsting of Councl'men Broth
erton, Mecteilu, Dodd, Rice and MoMillau, ap
pointed by the Major on test Friday night, together
with the Water Commtaeloners—of whom only
Meurs. Ormond, Dunulsg, Kelly, T.'f and Cox
were present—met at the oflico of Mayor Hemmock
teat night, tor the purpose of considering whether
they would entertain a proposition In regard to
water work* or not. This proposition emanated
from Messrs. W. Tltlebaum and David BukofMr,
who deeire to know whether the city authorltt-i

tain the exclusive franchise of eroctlug ample yid
sufficient water works In the city of Atlanta, with
out any cost to the city whatsoever. In th* event
satisfactory answer, these gentlemen would

After conferring among themselves and the Water
Commissioners, It wee agreed by resolution pass'd
that Messrs. Titlebauoi and Bukofxer should make
their proposition within thirty days, and the same
should meet with due consideration by the commit
tee and Oommlsslonere. In answer to questions,
Mr. Bukofxer stated that he wm from Triton, Whit
field connty, a native Georgian, and the capitalist*

On motion, the meeting adjourned to await the

full particulars of the aad accident, aud which we

FatalAocidbnt.—A terriblo accident happened

In his death yesterday morning at ten o’clock. At
the time of the accident a load racket wm heard on
the floor above Mr. Oornfield's office, and proved to
have been prodnoed by the falling of Mr.

Mr. Geary wm removed to his residence in the even
