These renlakons demand for the ne

They mean nut only
f of the negro with the white
man before the law, bat they embrace
perfect equal tty In every respect, politi
cal and social, of both the races. As w<
understand them, they mean that hotels,
pablie schools, all plates of amaaemeot,
the ohnesbaa, and all pleoee of public re
sort are to be thrown open indiaorimi
nately to both nlsssss upon terms of the
strMmt equality. The objeot to be at
tained is the complete nnidoatlon, social
and political, of both moss.
Bat those reao.atioas do not go oat as
the expression of the people of New Or
isons, bat from an association of some
flity or sixty men of both raoes as the
basis of a reform, ss it is termed, they
hare banded themselves together to pro.
mote. Wears not advised as to the ex
tent of popular endonement this new
movement receives even in the city of
Mew Orleans. If we are not mistaken ae
to the temper of the people of that oity,
we are inoUned to believe that the move-
msnt will be oonfined to quite a small
number of the whitei. It is hardly pos
sible that a people who have been so
hostile to Gen. Longstroet booauae he
"aooeptad the situation” several years
ago, and baa been the recipient of gov
eramental favors, would now take a step
so ftur in advanoe of the most nltra Radi
oals, either North or Booth, in reoogniz
ing the social equality of the raoes.
And It would seem that the negro race
has little to gain in point of sooial recog.
nition in quitting the Radical party,
whioh was the first to make it, and from
which it has not reoedad, to unite with a
new organisation whioh has not the
power, either in point of numbers or of
the more potent one of official patronage,
to enforce their views. As to the qnes
lion of reform in the State Government,
a prominent object claimed to be in view
of thlaaooial and political amalgamation of
the raoes, it is hardly to be believed that
it will carry with it suffioient strength to
moke the new movement of any signifl
oauoein the Slate.
We do not believe that the great name
of Gen. Beauregard is of sufficient

Oaaeasiau blood curdles with indignation;
nor do we believe that the promise of
social equality will be sufficiently tempt

party in power, when that party gives
them, tlieoretioally at least, all that is
contended for by the new movement
Besides, the asoral tone of negro sen’i-

A patent noaale for hoae-pipe has jnst
been introduced into use in aomo of the
Fin Departments in Northern oitiea.
Referring to thia new patent, the Savan
nah y*w$ eaya that, with thia noaale, the
hoeeman can abnt off the weter conve
niently, without shooting along a length

The new invention hie been enbjeoted
to several trials end haa given geueral
satisfaction—and will, no donbt, become
very popular among firemen. Those
who have attended fine, and have been
‘wetted” through the inability of the
hoeeman to restrain the water in the
pipe, will appreciate the advantages of
swob an improvement. We reoommend
the attention of onr eoergetio Chief En

College will be preached this morning by
Rev. A T Spalding, of Atlanta, Rev,
Dr. Dixon, of Angus, a, having been com
pelled to decline doing so on account of
the ill health of his wife.
This will be an introduction of a aerie,
of literary and musical festivities for
which LaGrange ia ao celebrated. To
morrow nigbt a musical entertainment
will be given under the supervision of
Messrs. Stokely and Cox, that will be
very interesting. The beautiful operetta
of “The Fairy Grotto” will constitute the
main featnre of the evening.
On Tuesday the Junior exhibition will
take place and at nigbt the grand concert
ol Prof. Sohirmaeber and bia pupils. Wo
do not know wbat will be the character
of the programme except that we are as
sured that it will comprise some of the
finest productions of the great masters
of music, and that it will be the most
elegant concert ever given in LaGrange
by tha aooomp'ished Sohirmaeber, whose
attainments aa a musician are not sur
passed by those of any other mans in
the Booth, or in this country.
Snob of onr Atlanta friends aa
would spend a day or two pleasantly,
oonld not accept an opportunity that
woaid assart) them a greater degree of
enjoyment—for when we assert that the
entertainment ol Tneaday night will be
on tbe most magnificent scale, we only

will pass over the Atlanta A West Point

fare.
