WHEREAS many boats'and waggons Carry jn: g and transporting goods, wares* and merchandize, from the sea ports of this province to the interior parts of the fame, have lately been robbed by plundering parties of rebel banditti, who*-’ Fifeft fome part* of the country, and who have thereby obtained such Supplies Os arms, ammuni tion,and other articles, as have enabled them more effeftually to carry on and continue their villainous depredations, to the great loss cm many of his Majdfty’s liege fubjefts, and to the great ciftrefs of the country : Andwhevtas, fmee the re ilriftions which have lately been imposed upon the internal trade of South Carolina, removed from thence into this province, and havp opeped {lores and ffiops in the upper parts of the country principally, as there is flrong reason to apprehend with an intention of supplying the-said plundering parties, and other his Majesty’s difaf fefted fubjefts, with many of the articles aforefaid : To prevent which evils in future, we pray your moft feered Majefiy that it may be etiaftedj And be it Enafied, by his Excellency Sir JAMES “WRIGHT, Baronet, Captain General and Go vernor in chief in and over his Majesty’s province of Georgia, by and with the advice and consent of the Honourable the Upper House aud the Com mons House of Assembly of the laid province, In General Assembly met, and by the authority of the fame, That, from and immediately after the palling of this ad, no arms, ammunition, or war- , like Itores whatever, (hall, upon any pretence whatsoever, be carried, transported, or conveyed, by any person or persons whatsoever, from any part or place of this province, to another part or place within the fame, Without a special licefife ob tained, as ii herein'mentioned, for that purpose ; neither ffiall, any person or persons whatsoever carry J'or.f/anfport anp*jJdo9s, wares", or merchandize, (except only such as are of the growth, produce, or manufacture, of this province) in the way of trade, traffick-, or merchandize, 1 ’ from any sea port town, or other trading town, within this province, either by land or by water, to any other place within the fame, or through any of the fame, without a permit for the carrying or transporting of the fame firft-duly had and received from the Governor or Commander in chief for the time be ig> or from fotne person 6r perfonflay him autho rized to grant the fame, and signed either by the said Governor or Commander in chief for the time being, or by fome person or persons authorized and appointed by the said Governor or Commander in chief as aforefaid, to g'ant the fame. And be it Enacted, That all ammunition, arms, and warlike (lores, goods, wares, and merchan dize, coming under the defefiption aforefaid, which may be found or difeovered in the pdil'elfion or custody of any person or persons whatever so carrying or transporting the fame as aforefaid with out fufh permit, {hall, upon credible information thereof made to any Magistrate, Coi?ftable- t or*o ther JPeace Officer, or to commiflioned Officer of Militia, or of his Majesty’s Forces', within this province, -whether from the certain knowledge or well founded fofpicion of the informant, be,, and they aue hereby, declared to be fubjeft to immediate seizure and, detention ; and all Magistrates, Con stables, Pdac.e Officers, commissioned Officers of Militia, or of his,. Majesty’s Forces, within this province, are hereby authorized and required, up on .credible information or well grounded suspicion thereof af aforefaid, oa the oath of the informant, to iffuean order in writing for the seizure and de* temion of the feme until- foch permit as herein be fore is required be produced by the person or per sons claiming or having the custody. or care of foch ammunition, arms, goods, wares, and merchan dize, as aforefaid. ’ And be it Enaded, That, in all cases where any such arms, ammunition, goods, wares, or mer chandize, as aforefaid, for which no permit is pro duced to the Ggcer or .Officers who ffiall have seized on the feme, ffiall be so as aforefaid seized, it (hall be lawful for any Justice of the Peace within the pariffi in which the fame ffiall have been so feizvd immediately, or as soon as conveniently may be thereafter, to cause the fame to be carried or transported either to the towns of Savannah, Au* gufta, or Sunbury, as may be moil expedient, and that it /11311 be lawful for any Joffice of the Peace for the pariffi to vyhich such arms, ammunition, gQods, wares, or merchandize,, ffiall as aforefaid, by virtue of fuebfeizure and'order, ’ be fenc, caret, ed, or transported. to cause the fame to be fold at publick outcry to the highest bidder, (being a good and loyal fubjpft) notice ofjfuch inteqded iale hav, ing been firift duly given in the Gazette for three successive weeks immediately pfeceeding such sale ; and the Justice pf the Peace by whose orejer such arms, ammunition,.goods, wares, or ofcrchandize, ffiaf! have l?een fold as aforefaid, ishercoy directed to pay the i ett proceeds afifing from fefe ia the following manner, that is to fay, one hllf to the informer or informers, and the other half into , the hands of the Publick Treasurer, to be applied ih aid of the general tax. And be it Enabled, That, fi dm and immediately - after theeftd and expiration of one calendar month next after the palling of this aft, no person or per sons whatever ffiall keep any ltore, ffiop, or ware houfe', in any town or place within the limits of this province, (the towns of Savannah and Sunbury only excepted) without a license for that purpose firft had and received from the Governor or Com mander in chief for the time being, or from fome person or persons by the said Governor or Com mander in chief authorized to grant the fame; and that, from and immediately after the end and ex piration of the said term of one calendar month next after the palling of this aft, it {hall be lawful for any Justice of the Peace, or any other person authorized for that purpose, by warrant under the hand and seal of any Justice of the Peace, at any hour of the day between sunrise and ftinfet, to enter 1 into any store, ffiop, or warehouse, within his pa rith or diftrift, (except within the towns of Savan nah and Sunbury aforefaid) and then and there to seize upon and carry away all arms, ammunition, goods, wares, and merchandize, as aforefaid, for the carrying or transporting of which to the place at which they may be found no permit is produced hy the owner-or keeper of such store, ffiop, or warehouse, as aforefaid; and that all arms, am munition, gobds, wares, and merchandize, so seized, ffiall be fubjeft to the fame regulations, and disposed of in the fame manner as herein before is directed in the case of such articles seized during their carriage or tranfportalion from one part of the province to another. And be it Enafted, That if any aftion or fijt ffiall be brought against any person or persons, for. or by reason of any aft, matter, or thing, by them, or any of them, done under authority of this aft, the defendant or defendants may pleacLthe gcn’eial; iftlie, and'give the special matter in evidence at the trial; and in.every such ca-fe, if the plaintiff or plaintiffs ffiall be nQnfuitcd, or ffiall difeontinue his or their aftion, after the defendant or defendants ffiall have appeared, the defendant or defendants ffiall recover his or their colts which he or they ffiall have been put to'by’ reason of his or their wrongful vexation in defence of the said aftion or suit; and that every such aftion, suit, bill, plaint, or infor mation, ffiall be brought, commenced, or prosecut ed, within fix months after the commission of the faft charged therein, and not afterwards. And be it That this aft ffiall be arid continue in force for and during the term of one year next after the pafling thereof, and from thence to the end of the next sessions of the General As sembly, and no longer. Jamie, who went off the 22d of December last; he is a- Übcut 14 years old, tall for his age, of a yellow complexion, has several marks on his head and face by a fall from a horse : As . there is reason to be lieve he has changed hisdrefs fence his going away cannot be particular as to his cloaths. ( The other a Fellow, named J.ightfoot, went oflTthe 6th of March last, is about 30 years old, five feet four inches high, much pitted with the smallpox, has a blerniffi in one of his eyes, had on when he went off a crocus Hurt and trowfers, and an old German serge coat. Jfonie bas b&en seen about Mrs. Gib bons’s plantation, and is luppofed to be harboured there, and between that and White Bluff by a ne gro mao -named omifed Jamie Dally. A TRACT at Newport, in the pariffi of St. Andrew, whereon William Brown lately resided, near lands of Benjamin Andrew, and-ad joining the Defart, contains f.cres, great part of which is exceeding r good rice lapd, and nevei failed, when under cultivation, of producing large crops, having conveniency for reserves of water, and is very advantageous in point of situation foi raising flock. A Traft, containing 260 acres, in St. Andrew’s pariffi, on the Alatamaha road, where John Curtis formerly resided, takes in the swamp called Little Mortar, is a convenient fitualionfor a tavern, has every advantage for keeping and raising Hock, having a fine range of pine barren all the way, frora the fame to the Alatamaha. A Traft, containing 500 acres, in the pariffi of St. David, on the Buffalo Swamp, adjoining lands of Jonathan Fox, a great part of which is excellently well timbered swamp, (aid to be of the best quality for producing rice, is about iz miles from the town of Brunswick, and convenient to* landing on Turtle Ri v er, Five Sixths of a Traft, in the diftrift of Littlt Ogechee, about 12 miles from Savannah* and not quite two from a landing, containing 424 acres* about one third of this traft is cypress swamp, 60 acres of which is cleared and under dams; there; mainder is good high land, a part of which i { cleared and under good fence, and is well improv ed, having a good dwelling-house, kitchen, barii, and garden, with a number of fruit and ornamen tal trees, and is airexceeding pleasant and healthy situation.
