Wo were I'leanctl to notice, iluring our T*it ;
t i Charleston last week, that Mr. Si.ovan. the j
enterprising manager of the Theatre, h:nl on ■
hand one > r the very beet rtock companies
which we have ever seen in ihe Southern States, i
Messrs. Oxley, Allen, Sloan, and others, can j
scarcely be surpassed in their several depart- !
Went.*, while the beautiful and fascinating Miss i
Di an gave a )>eculiar charm to every charae- !
ter which she personated. She is deservedly a ,
great favorite, and her reception on Monday !
night was one of the most flattering and entliu- j
siastic which we havo ever witnessed. We ,
sincerely trust that she may he iuduced to visit j
Savannah, where her histrionic powers are so
highly and justly appreciated.

S. TANARUS: Ciiatmam Kag.—Will yon bo good
cm gli to publish the subjoined rrripe ? It
has been very successfully used by tho most
intelligent planters in Louisiana, Mississippi,
and other South Western States where the
t holera ha* prevailed to the most alarming
extent. A planter who owns a largo negro
force in Louisiana informs ine that he has never
lost a ease since he has used this preparation ;
nor has he known of the loss of a patient where
the remedy was administered iu the enrlier
stages of the disease. I hava shown this reeii>e
to some of the most scientific and skilful
plivsicMrvs iu this Plate, and they ail concurred
In the opinion that it could not fail to be effec
tual. It iscspeoially convenient for plantation
use, ns it can always he kept on hand and the
administration is so simple lbs* it ssn be given
even by the negroes to each other.

ARRIVAL or Till: (RIiMIAT I ITV.
The C. S. Mail Steamship Crt scent City ,
llenrv K. Davenport, U. P. Navy Commander.
Arrived from New Orleans via Havana, leaiing
the latter port on the nfternoon of the Kith 1
inst. Phe has experienced a succession of
heavy northern gales.
The Crrscrut City arrived off the Moro on
the evening of the 15th inst., after sunset, and
ha l to remain outside until the next morning.
The Spanish Pteam frigate Isabel Segittide/,
Vhich was cruising offdh? port, spoke the C. C
and after learning her name and destination,
passed on. After entering the port, to which
no objection wa* made, the Captain of the
Port came alongside and infornled Capt. Dav
enport that the mails and all, persons could
land, except Purser Pinith.
l'|>on Capt. Davenport expressing him*elf
pleased at the termination of the difficulties
heretofore existing, the Captain of the Port
o ssured him that it xw* only for this trip : Imt
should Mr. Pmilh return in the ship from New
York, no communication with the shore would
be allowed. Capt. lb expressed, his regret at
this, and remarked that the difficulty was lie
coming more complicated by this measure, nnd
that although the right to exclude any indi
vidual from the i-lnml, whom the authorities
luigld consider prejudicial to its tranquility
was ~.’t denied, he could not concede the right
to the Captain tleneral to prohibit the mails
and all passengers simply because our person
on board was obnoxious to his Excellency.
To this no reply was made. Capt. Daven
port was told when he left Havana for New Or
leans,- on the outwnrd trip, that the ship would
not be permitted to enter the port on her re
torn if Mr. Smith corae'ln her; but it seems
tlie Captain Oeneral was induced to change his
mind a ftetr days previous to her arrival in con
sideration that her voyage would not be com
pleted u:.til her return to New York, and that
no change could lake place in the officers be
fore that time.
On the eve of sailing, Capt; D. received r.
note from Messrs. Drake A Cos., enclosing n
copy of one to them from Martin Galliano, the
Political Secretary of the Captain Oenernl.—
The letter, together with one from Capt. I>. to
Messrs. Drake A Cos., will he found below.
There were three English war steamers in
Havana, and the rrjiort was thnt they were
waiting to see the result of the “ Crescent City
affair,” many stories being in circulation about
her being fired into. Ae,. Ac. Judge Sharkey,
tlie American Consul, a gentleman who has
ttjon all ocrs.sions proved himself worthy of
the high trust reposed in him, called on board
of the Cresrrnt City, and had a long conversa
tion with Capt. Davenport upon the state of
affairs in Havana,
