Geori, , and Alabama, met in Columbas. Ga. .
and formed tbemsrlves into an Agricultural 8o
ciety. The advantages of such an association
were at once apparent, and with the Tiew to con
tribute as much as possible to agricultural im
provement, it was determined, at a meeting of
the Society, in Jan. 1851, to establish an Agrirul
tural Journal. As the result of that action,

from that day to this, it has steadily and>spidly
increased in circulation and public favor. At tho
recent great Fair in Macon, Ua. it was l>y a unan
imous vote of the members, vetomuendrd to tbe
patronage of th* Southern Agriculturists, aad
elected to he the Orgaa of the itoothern Central
Agricultural Association.
It will hereafter be published under the auspi
ces of that association, and will b* th* medium
of communicating officially all intelligence per
taining to it* interest* and objects. By u resolu
tion of the executive committee, the publisher ia
authorised to send a copy of the paper gratuit
ously to all agricultural societiea of the South
that will send their address to the office of pub
lication.
Th* colomns of the foil of the South will •
heretofore, be devoted to th* discussion of all
anbjects pertaining to the interests of Arrlculturo
and Horticulture, Domestic and Rural Economy.
It is intended to make the papar essentially prac
