PAGE 2 The Sylvester Local News Wednesday, December 25, 2024 15 years ago - January 6, 2010 As the year was winding down, business for rescue per sonnel in Worth County picked up. The following are events that transpired in Worth County in the final days of 2009: On December 23, WCFR was called to a fire on Jones Road where an abandoned mobile home was completely engulfed in flames. Less than a week later, on December 28, Poulan had a rim thief on the ran. PPD received a call from Futrill’s Salvage Yard that someone had been stealing car parts. They were able to locate 118 car rims that had been sold to a scrap yard in Sparks, Ga for nearly $1000, but the suspect has not been caught yet. The next day, December 29, SFD, SPD, and Phoebe Worth units were dispatched to the corner of Price Street and Morningside Street on a report that a vehicle had overturned in the road. A couple in a silver Nissan Altima apparently failed to stop as they ap proached the stop sign and collided with the driver’s door of a Dodge truck, and the small SUV flipped onto its side. Imme diately after this, WCFR was called to a cotton module on fire in Red Rock. WCFR extinguished the blaze and were able to save most of the cotton. The last call of the year was on De cember 30, for a wreck that WCFR was again called to. This time, a Conger LP Gas truck was travelling east on Highway 133 to deliver gas to Wiregrass Plantation. As the driver of the truck stopped to turn left into the plantation’s driveway, a grey Chevrolet Silverado slammed into the back of the gas truck. The Conger truck had suffered little damage, the pickup was totaled, but everyone walked away with minor injuries. 30 years ago - January 4,1995 Maresa Wright, a second grader at Magnolia Elementa ry School in Albany, was named an Honor Roll student for both completed six weeks in the 1994-95 school term. She was also the winner of the second-grade creative writing contest on the title, “What Education Means To Me”. Her other accomplish ments include “Student of the Month” for November, a good citizenship award and the Magnolia Extended Day Program “Student of the Month”. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. P. (Sue) Wright. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John (Mar- ye) Wright of Albany, and Mrs. Mamie Jones of Sylvester. Health Facts - Americans were charged an average of $2,590 per family for health care in 1980. Navy Radioman 3rd Class Richard D. Coleman, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.I. Coleman of Doerun, has returned from a de ployment in the Mediterranean Sea. He is a crewmember aboard the frigate USS Bowen, homeported in Charleston, S.C. While deployed, his ship operated as a unit of the U.S. 6th Fleet and participated in training exercises with other 6th Fleet units and ships of allied nations. Port visits were made in several Medi terranean coastal cities. Coleman is a 1976 graduate of Doerun High School and joined the Navy in July 1976. 60 years ago - November 12,1964 CHAMBLEY, France—Airman First Class Thomas P. Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard P. Brooks of Sylvester, has been selected Outstanding Airman of the Quarter at Cham- bley AB, France. Airman Brooks, an air policeman, was chosen for the honor in recognition of his exemplary conduct and duty performance. He is assigned to the 7367th Air Police Division which supports the U. S. Air Forces in Europe mission of pro viding the major air contribution for defense of the NATO coun tries. He is a graduate of Worth County High School, entered the Air Force in August 1961. 100 years ago - December 18,1924 The average length of life in the United States has in creased 15 years since 1870, Surgeon General Cumming, of the public health service says in his annual report to congress. The funeral service was held at 1:00 PM on Friday December 20, 2024, at Uni ty Baptist Church. The Rev. Todd Brooks, Dr. Jason Jones and Rev. Donnie Duncan offi ciated. Interment followed in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Delaney was born on Feb ruary 28, 2001, in Albany, GA. She grew up on her Pa pa’s farm in Doerun. Starting as a young girl, Delaney loved being outdoors. She loved to help her Papa and Mimi plant watermelons and produce. She spent many weekends with her Mimi and Papa on the farm. Delaney loved going fishing with her Mema from the time she was old enough to hold a fishing pole. She also loved going hunting and wasn’t afraid to shoot any gun you handed her. Delaney was an entrepre neur from a young age, always having something to sell. She frequently had yard sales from her couponing adventures and produce from her garden. Dollar General was her fa vorite store, especially when they had a clearance sale. She graduated with honors as a 13-year student from Tiftarea Academy. She attended Abra ham Baldwin Agricultural College and Southern Region al Technical College. Delaney would light up any room no matter the sit uation. She was loved by everyone that knew her be cause of her loving and caring heart. She loved all animals and would rescue any animal that needed it and gladly leave it at any family members’ house that would take it. Del aney met the love of her life and best friend in February of 2017. From that day for ward, Delaney and Brennan were inseparable. They were truly best friends. They were married on June 6, 2020, sur rounded by friends and family. Delaney loved Christmas and her favorite pastime was watching Hallmark Christmas movies in her pajamas drink ing hot chocolate. Delaney and Brennan had a marriage straight from a fairytale. She made their house a home. Delaney loved to cook and was excellent at cooking and grilling. She had a love for baking. She loved Mexican food, and they ate it as often as they could. She had a way of turning almost anything into a beautiful decoration for their home. Soon after marriage, they began their journey to start a family. Delaney want ed to be a momma more than anything. Through many ups, downs and hardships, Delaney and Brennan’s prayers were answered as they found out they were expecting. On December 14, 2024, Grayson Banks Harris was born, and she and Brennan could not have been happi er. That happiness was short lived, as Delaney experienced complications during child birth. She was able to hold and feed him but only for a brief time. They were so excited to bring their sweet baby home. The Lord had other plans and called Delaney to her heav enly home. As we mourn the loss of our precious Delaney, we know she is looking down on us right now from Heaven and will always be our guard ian Angel. Delaney was employed with the Natural Resource Conservation Service. She was previously employed at Sunbelt Ford and the Clerk of Courts office. Delaney is survived by her loving husband Brennan Harris, her son Grayson Har ris; Parents Billy and Amanda Anglon; Sister Reagan Anglon (Austin); Maternal Grandpar ents Darrell and Jacky Clay ton; Paternal Grandparents Joe and Georgia Anglon; Ma ternal Great-grandmother Ma rie Hudson; Father and Moth- er-in-law Conway and Sandy Harris; Sisters-in-law, Britta ny and Nick Miller, Brianna and Colt Tomberlin and Beth any and Ranger Schmucker; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Delaney was preced ed in death by her Mater nal Great-grandfather Lee Roy Hudson, Maternal Great-grandparents Floyd and Eula Mae Clayton, Paternal Great-Grandparents Kenneth and Nora Short and Paternal Great-grandparents John Tom and Mattie Irene Anglon. Lisa Glover Roberts Mrs. Lisa Glover Roberts, 54, of Sylvester, Georgia, died on Monday, December 16, 2024, at her residence. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thurs day, December 19, 2024, at Bethel Baptist Church, inter ment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Story will officiate. Mrs. Roberts was born on February 8, 1970 in Sylves ter Georgia. She had lived in Worth County most of her life and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Roberts was a retired manager in the retail industry. She was an avid Florida Gators and Kan sas City Chiefs fan. She en joyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Fonda Dwight “Bud” Childers Mr. Fonda Dwight “Bud” Childers, 80, of Worth Coun ty, Georgia, died on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at his res idence. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Banks Funeral Home Chapel, inter ment will follow in the Poulan Cemetery. The Rev. Jeffery Carter will officiate. Mr. Childers was born on January 28, 1944 in Floyd County, Georgia, to the late Fred Marion and Bonnie Wil ma Swanson Childers. He had lived in Worth County, Georgia most of his life and retired from Molson Coors as a mechanic. We dreamed of fish piled high in the boat To win the tourney, oh how we would gloat. Then out on the water there came such a racket I jumped outta bed, even forgetting my jacket. Then what on the water should appear But a sleek red Ranger packed with gear. With a big ‘ol angler decked out in re d I began to wonder why I got out of bed. Then he cast a red and white-striped worm His thumb control on the reel quite firm. The worm hit the water up under a dock His retrieve cranked in, steady as a clock. Then, something hit, something obviously big. Survivors include her daughter, Meagan Thompson (Brooke) of North Carolina; son, Ryan Thompson (Sarah) of Leesburg, GA; grandchil dren, Lucas, Scout, Callie, Josh and Sam; siblings, Teresa Robinson (Clay), Brenda Yod er (Greg), Billie Glover, Glo ria Bearden and her mother, Gladys Wynne. Mrs. Roberts was preced ed in death by her father, Billy Sumner Roberts, and a sister Trish Braddock. He planed in an instant, then what’s more Kept rising from the wa ter, he began to soar. He aimed for the sky and hit running lights.
