Local firefighters complete GPSTC course
Jim Lyons and Scott Tankersley,
Emergency Medical Technicians
and Firefighters with the Forsyth
County Fire Department, have
completed a Hazardous Materials
Technician course taught at the
Georgia Public Safety Training
Center.
The course includes discussions
in chemical and physical proper
ties of hazardous materials, toxi
cology, personal protective equip
ment, sources for hazardous mate
Barrett graduates from police academy
Chris Barrett graduated with
honors from the Northeast
Georgia Police Academy on Nov.
17, 1995. Chris participated in
the nine week, 360 hour Basic
Law Enforcement Training
Course as required by the

Besides classroom work, students
participate in practical exercises.
The course is taught by instruc
tors of the Georgia Fire Academy,
a division of the Georgia Public
Safety Training Center, and the

Festival of trees
volunteers celebrate
Cumming residents and
Festival of Trees General
Committee members Tom
and Alice Metrick enjoy an
evening of fun and food at
Cafe Tu Tu Tango. The
Festival’s 250 member
General Committee of vol
unteers works year-round to
bring the Festival of Trees to
Atlanta. Over 9,000 addition
al volunteers work during the
Festival. The 1995 Festival
will arrive at the Georgia
World Congress Center,
December 2-10, opening
with the Egleston Children’s
Christmas Parade on
Saturday, December 2. Both
events will feature an inter
national celebration of the
winter holidays around the
world. Since its inception 19
years ago, the Festival has
raised over $7.5 million for
Egleston Children’s Hospital.
