Starting now, dial all 10 digits when calling between area codes in the Atlanta local calling area. With the introduction of .Area Code 770 in the Atlanta Metro Area, now there are four area codes in the Atlanta Local Calling Area. To make sure your calls get through, you’ll need to dial all 10 digits when making local calls between area codes. The mandator)' 10-digit dialing does not begin until December 1,1995, but we encourage you to start using the new dialing procedure now so you’ll be used to it. Because, after December 1, if you don’t dial 10 digits when calling from one area code to another, your calls won’t get through. So remember: • Get into the habit of dialing 10 digits now, then you’ll he ready for the December 1 mandatory date. • Even though you dial 10 digits and cross area codes, your local calling area is not changing. Calls you make locally now will still be local after December 1. • You should not dial a “1” or “0” before the area code and telephone number when mak ing local calls between area codes. If you dial a “1” or “0” when making a local call, you will reach an intercept message and your call wall not go through (Dial “1” or “0” before the area code and telephone number on long dis tance calls only.) • You do not have to dial 10 digits when calling numbers within your area code, for example, between two 404 numbers or between two 770 numbers. But if you do dial 10 digits, your call will go through. • Many automatic dialers, computer dialing sys tems, or other programmable dialing equip ment automatically insert a “1" when an area code and telephone number (10 digits) are dialed. Consult with your equipment or soft ware vendor to ensure that your dialers will accommodate local 10-digit dialing. ■ rg&£ / " : JH» w ■■•■■ ■ P 4^PPB!WSf | -'y! y: : '? -■.■•lt*. ■•— . v 1 MM^P^^ :i #MWßtitlril^B If you have any questions related to Area Code 770 or the new 10-digit dialing procedures, please call 1 800 544-1015 seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
