We can learn a lesson from Jesus’ use of the humble donkey
By Gary Armes
For the Forsyth County News
Today we celebrate Palm
Sunday. We think of the parade
that brought Jesus into the city of
Jerusalem to usher in the final
week of His life.
There are the palm branches,
the coats thrown on the ground
before him, the shouts of
“Hosanna, Blessed by the name of
the Lord” rising from the crowd.
Parades are fun, exciting and they
have away of making us children
again.
But notice how Jesus came. He
came on a donkey, not a stallion.

In those days, if a warrior came to
a city as a conqueror, he rode a
horse, but if he came in peace, he
rode a donkey. For Jesus to come
into Jerusalem on a donkey is
much like Jesus coming into
Washington D.C. in a VW instead
of a Sherman tank.
The animal he rode was a sim
ple donkey. Have you ever noticed
how in the Gospel accounts Jesus
came to use this animal and a les
son we can learn from it? In
Mark’s account, in chapter 11,
Jesus is giving His disciples
instructions about getting the don
key. In verse 3, he tells them, “If
anyone asked what you are doing,
tell them the Lord needs it.” The
needs are no less great today.
There are people who need to be
reached with the love of Christ,
people who need to be loved, and
people who need to serve. The
question is, do you have anything
you are willing to share or to give
to Him?
When you begin to add up all
He has given us and what He has
done for us you begin to realize
the most valuable thing we can
give to Him is our hearts.
After all, we want the Lord
close by when we are afraid; we
want Him to come and heal when
we hurt, and stand beside us when

Girl Scouts host birthday celebration
Local Girl Scouts were busy at the recent Birthday Celebration at North Lanier Baptist Church.
Scouts made more than 100 birthday cards to be sent overseas to military personnel, created
100 baskets for donation to The Place of Forsyth County and made seven baskets for Jesse’s
House. They also played games and ate cake. Kroger donated the cell phones that were
placed in the baskets along with other items from the Forsyth County Fire Department, U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers and Northside Hospital.
we feel alone. We count on Him
always being there for us, but are
we there for Him? Are we willing
to be used?

Olympic gold medal. He tried to
explain by saying, “Jenny, I know
God created me for His service,
but He also made me fast! When I
run, I feel His pleasure!”
If you’ve seen the movie, you
know the rest of the story. He
refused to run on Sunday and
went on to another race where he
won the gold medal, and that
ordeal caused him to be a great
witness for Christ to the whole
world.
Is there something of yourself

gift of your heart or hand.
The people shouted praises to
Jesus as He came into their city.
He was riding on donkey that was
willingly given. Just think of what
He can do with you, if you are
simply willing to be used.
